For the life of me I can't remember hearing about a transfer box failiure...has anybody else? I would have it double checked.
G'day, I recently bought a 06 Disco 3 and as things goes its already in the shop looking at replacing the transfer case. I was driving up to the flinders and started to notice a strange noise (I was on the black top at the time). I took it into a recommended repairer and initially we thought either wheel bearing or front diff, but unfortunately they think its the transfer case. I got the feeling that this was a common problem but I have failed to find any info on the net or in the search of this forum. Has anyone heard of this before and have suggested fixes. At the moment I'm looking at a second hand transfer case but not sure if the unit can be rebuilt? Cheers Mori

There is such a small amount of oil in the transfer case and diffs - it is a wonder they don't break more often! Plus LR only replace them at 128,000km service, IIRC.

SupporterDoes the disco 3/4 and range rover vogue run the same transfer boxs?Last week, my td6 l322 rangie spat both the transfer case and the gearbox in one almighty bang. They are not sure which box went first to destroy the other box, in any case it twisted the mainshaft on the gearbox and stripped the splines on the transfer case, and then threw a heap of metal into the transfer box.
Cheers,

Cheers for the posts, I guess if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all! Should have it back on the road (Off the road) shortly so fingers crossed I can keep her out of the shop for a while. Thanks
