A coil sprung D3? They were made but there were still more airsprung ones.
Anyways, the coilers don't have active suspension, so WDHs should be ok/of value

Taffi, I tow a three ton tandem axle van with my D3, sorry I have not found any anti-sway device for the D3.

I think having approx 10% of van weight on towball is essential and a tandem axle also helps. The slow turning of the steering wheel, no sudden movement when at speed makes our trips a lot less scary.

Hi Taffi,

Everytime we tow our 2.5 van both on and off road with the D3 I am always pleasantly surprised at how well it tows and how stable it is at any speed on any surface.

That was not the case with the D2, it was truly ordinary as a tug.

Hi Taff,
I can't answer your question directly but a couple of years ago I was letting my friend drive my D3 with attached caravan out near Kings Canyon. She wasn't sure if she could overtake a slower 4x4. I assured her that it was fine. However, during the overtake, the caravan started to "snake" a bit. I was about to tell her how to correct this when she became a bit stressed so I just reached over and held the steering wheel steady (she was overcorrecting in her nervousness).

No further problems and we completed the overtake.

I don't know what your vehicle was when you had your "experience", and no reflection on you, but driver understanding and skill plays a part in these situations.

Having said that, the D3 is the most stable towing vehicle I've ever encountered.

Further, I believe that a "sway assist" system may work (the D4 has a version of this as an option). But again, I doubt that it is necessary with the D3.

any suggestions how this might work if on a caravan being towed by a landy with sway-assist active. Are they going to work together, cancel each other out, or make a double sway???

If its as good as it sounds in the promo then what an excellent innovation and one that I'd be happy to fit to my caravan.

Can't see that it would affect the D4's trailer stability electronics as it corrects the problems before the D4's electronics would notice an issue, in theory anyway.

How much weight have you got on the drawbar?

What have you got loaded at the rear of the caravan, internally, or on the rear bar?
