    how long can the car be left not used

    Does anyone have some idea / knowledge on how long you can leave the car (in my case a D4) locked and unused before you risk draining the battery?

    I'm guessing the various on board electronics will be slowly using up power so after a few (weeks?) it will become an issue?

    I keep my camper batteries charged and once a month boost them, but how long can the car be left standing?

    I have just come back from a 6 week overseas trip and the 2010 d4 had no problems starting and all systems normal.

    depends on how good the battery is and what prep work you do...

    disconnect the battery and in theory you could leave it for over a year with a good battery... in reality, I wouldnt want to leave it more than a month without some kind of maintenance charger.

    I spent 2 1/2 months in the USA late last year, I wanted to disconnect the battery & in all the anticipation I forgot.
    Returned home & went to start the vehicle & presto, it started no problems.

    It does depend a lot on the battery though. If it is good condition then all should be good,.

    Hi Ozzy119,
    I don't use my vehicle as often as maybe I should, when mines in the garage I leave it hooked up to a CTEK charger, only the small one, this keeps everything charged as it should be, never had any problems. Takes two minutes to hook up and also disconnect. I just do this for peace of mind.

    Hi,
    I just bought a small 1A charger with a few smarts to keep a new battery in good condition on a vehicle that will only be used occasionally.
    Probably could have got it cheaper from Jaycar, but bought it at the same place as the battery.

    From reading another post the traxide isolator should ensure that the starting battery lasts longer by allowing it to draw from the second battery. Quite a tricky bit of kit.
