ok to might have been a error to try, get over it and enjoy it, whingers not welcome thanks
Traveling down from a nice snow covered mount Skene. Cut four big trees to come down the track to a ford over the Goulbourn River. Wheel deep until very close to the other side. Choose to back out as soon as it got deep. I know "only up the the wheel hubs" and am sharing for your enjoyment not for a whinge session. My Disco duck easily reversed back into the shallow water and backed out and ran perfectly in water far deeper than we would mean to put our discos. Glad that they are part duck
Reverse = Discretion and get out of a deep whole.

Btw - your post spent a lot of time whining about having a whinge!![]()
yep link not opening properly![]()
Weakestlink,
That was deep, i assume you have snorkel as it would have easily been over the air intake ?
Passenger did not sound impressed !!.
Glad to hear it ran well after it swim.
George
Thats a fair dunking considering the flow of the river as well.
You forgot to add "Please dont try this at home".
Cheers, Craig.
BTW: Do you have a snorkel??
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS.![]()
A sealed safari snorkle not raised air intake thankfully. everyone was a little suppised when the shallow crossing fellinto a deep hole. The back of the car was a lot higher and shallow water down river would have made a total float recoverable if it occured. just no exit point down the river. DOH
It was clearly my mistake- just one showing the engine and self recovery in reverse the two foot back from the hole. A few nice people arrived on the exit point offering to help the last bit with a strap but I felt a nice long drive a much better idea now I knew how deep it was. Nice offer.
But you had already driven through the deepest bit (the bonnet was coming out of the water) - why not continue on.
I know easy to say when you are not there![]()

I couldn' get any traction to go forward. I think it was at a float point with any forward movement lifting the weight of the wheels. I did try to drive out as we were very close to the edge. The only traction was in reverse backing out which seemed a very good idea at that point. It was very close to being a success. I guess if I (was silly) and tried a little faster I might have pushed into shallower water close to the edge or of course, just floated which was not on my wish list for the weekend. It was possible if prepared to take more risk than I had already put myself and others into. We had looked at driving up the river a little but given some larger rocks thought a hang up or under car damage might result. It was a very good weekend inspite of my error which the disco happily covered for me as it tends to do.
