D3 Pulsating trailer lights LED lights

Hi all,yes I know its an on going issue.I have fixed my problem for the short term by fitting a new trailer plug strait off my tail lights.

my question please for all (with knowledge)
is the pulsating pulse just for the indicators or is there other issues.

I am only towing our newly purchased camper trailer (thank you Terry & Gloria)

Thank you in advance to any cheers Zedd

HI Terry and Gloria. stumped me too when I plugged in a hired camping trailer with LED lights and go a disco display.

Have a look at http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...er-lights.html which explains the issue and gives the fix.

    Carm Towing Adaptor Module

    Hi Zedd,

I used this kit on my 2009 RRS to stop the pulsating, after meeting the design engineer at local manufacturer Gore Research.

I only needed to use the two flasher circuits on this module. It came with a complete loom & can be used to add an isolated trailer socket outlet to any vehicle.

See link for details & photos. Trailer Towing Modules

"The most popular Towing Module is the TA200-12V-P (which will operate every vehicle to date) costs just AUD$149.00 including shipping (Yellow Express Bag to Australian adresses only), GST and the full accessory pack containing looms, fuses, eyelets etc."

    Hi Lobster,

I am in the market for an LED module and seriously considering a unit from Linear Electronic design (same as TerryO's) but I have just seen your post.

I see from the Carm instructions that (in the fine print) that the units don't turn off the rear park sensors when a trailer is attached. I am wondering how you got around that problem?

    Cheers

Thanks for your post Terry; very relevant.

I am quite likely to purchase an in-car mounted version of this LED module. I have few basic questions though, and would appreciate your comments.

    1) Did you go with the in-car mounted version, or the portable unit?
    2) If you opted for the in-car mounted version, were the installation instructions & diagrams good, adequate, or poor?
    3) Does it switch of the rear park sensors when required?
    4) Do you have any issues or concerns with it?

    Cheers

    John,

I went with the linear electronics one.

    Very easy to fit....clear instructions
    Parking sensors turn off
You need to turn the switch on and off for towing.

Works fine, but pricey for what it is. I tried to use the one I had on my touareg (portable unit but attached by double sided tape to the trailer. Other led trailers dont seem to need it on my toaureg) and it would not work, so definitely vehicle specific.

Thanks Brett. I agree that it is a bit pricey but it seems like a no hassle bit of kit. I have quoted $225 (correction) delivered ex-Linear Electronics.

    Cheers

I found it exactley the same as Brett did, good unit, not cheap though and sometimes for some reason you have to reset it when you first get in after hitching up your van/trailer etc. You can tell if its working though just by using an indicator to see if the trailer light comes on.

If it doesn't be aware that your electric trailer brakes might not be working, its easy to reset though just flick the switch and off you go. This only happens occassionally on mine after hitching up our van mind you, never when your driving.

    cheers,
    Terry
