			Non-Genuine Brake Pad/rotors... D3

I have being thinking about my brakes, was warned that I will be up for a set soon, and my question I am yet to have answered is has anyone upgraded the brakes to non-genuine LR pads and or rotors.

In my previous vehicle I upgraded to more heavy duty brakes as the vehicle was carrying heavier loads everyday, and didn't want brake fade issues.

From a LR specialist in Melbourne that I asked doesn't recommend doing so as it may interfere with the abs system and terrain response.

Can anyone help me out here? If you have upgraded please provide experiences and part info?

 Cheers in advance.

			Brake Parts Excel file

The link below is to an Excel file I made up re brake parts. It is for my 2005 LR3 so not all will apply. You can however download the file and modify as you wish.

I ended up installing Akebono ceramic pads and Euro brand solid vented rotors.

The Akebono pads I am happy with; the Euro rotors work OK but they lack the anti rust coating of the OEM rotors. As such, when you look thru the spokes in the wheels, it is like looking at old railroad tracks.

The neighbour next door has a Mercedes with dimpled rotors; they look good but for the 3, I think that the solid vented OEM style rather than some form of fancy is the least worst choice.

For our Tasmanian trip last year I changed all the rotors and pads in my 05 D3 TDV6 to drilled and slotted ventilated disks, the pads are form "RDA" Extreme part no's RDX2022SM and RDX2023SM, cost me $130 in total the rotors came from "MR Automotive" and were $110 each I think. We never had any fade issues etc towing the three ton van, since then as they were so cheep, I got another set of pads ready for when these lot need replacing but that wont be till next year.

I've just picked up a set of DBA T2 rotors for my D2. I haven't had a chance to fit them yet so can't comment on the performance but a number of other D2 owners have fitted the previous version and have been very happy. They look to be very well made and the finish is very good.

Not sure of the D3 pricing but the D2 rotors were about $125 each delivered.

It looks like DBA have just launched a new website with half the content missing.
Their US site has the old content still: http://www.dbausa.com/products/street-performance/

Just had some Delphi pads installed. Squeeked like anything and very grabby. B&S motors changed them to LR OEMs at the front. Much better feel and no sweak. Rears seem ok but are quite smelly when hot.

I have fitted textar pads front and rear to my DIIa and have fitted many other sets to numerous vehicles with zero complaints, no squeal and not to much dust.

Not saying there the best but very reliable and good quality.

Can anyone tell me if the cross drilled and / or slotted rotors on the discoveries are noisy?????

So it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue. Happy to hear that. Will go with 3rd party when I have to.

 Cheers for the info!
