    Unhappy ARB bull bar and highlift jack-D3 and D4

    I like my ARB bull bar. Winch fits and it is a good fit on my D3. With a set of 17 inch muddies to put on and 18 more road tires for time I am stuck out of the mountain a high lift jack makes short work of my tire changing. The jack is carried off road as well.


    The ARB bar has high lift jack points. When flat and level on solid cement I found that the ARB lift points are to close the centre and it was lifting the entire front of the car. More than a little hard as the weight is over the jacks rating and when lifted the car was unstable and shifted to the side.I found this occured on either side jack point.

    I rang ARB who said that they:

    1. Have to have the lift points very close to the centre
    2. Did not know of this issue at all but understand this could be an issue
    3. Would not be able to alter due to the bars design issues

    I still like my bar but not as much as before. I am fairly sure this is a D3 and a D4 issue if you need a lift from your ARB bar

    Hey Weakestlink,

    I also have a 60" hi-lift with a jack mate for the D3. Could you not use the jack mate (adaptor to jack from the tyre) to get the vehicle up, then slide under the LR scissor jack (to hold the vehicle under while you swap the tyre) then drop it using the the hi-lift on the jack mate???

    I understand it's a bit of stuffing around, however if you have 4 tyres to do, I imagine it'd be a time saver still.

    Hi weakestlink - I like your "light bar" - you could probably melt oncoming semi's with that sucker

    You are correct, they are too close to the centre and using them is a pain if not on flat ground. The same goes for the Kaymar rear bar as well, though at least with it you can jack further out if needed.

    Thanks for the tips and suggestions gents. I am using the rock sliders to lift most of the time. Slider manufacture (Disco3QLD) suggested my sliders are not quiet right for lifting unless I get the jack right under the body not just on the rail. It works but as per the front trick I get very close to lifting half the car from the side which is over the jack rating of course. I also need to be careful not to hit the paint work while lifting with the jack so close in on the rock sliders.

    If anyone else with a ARB bar and finding this problem. On flat ground I can drive one side onto some bricks. Using the highlift on the front bar then levels the car with one side then coming off the ground enough for a wheel change.

    It is an issue people may need to be aware of before attempting a lift out in the bush mostly but at home as well. I would be unhappy to see anyone injured due to the risk this would be if people do not know about it. No harm done here.

    LED bar only comes on off road or way out back. its spread is great. the HID on our discos give a great range on high beam. More than enough light to dazzel if we fail to dip
