    blue smoke and the good oil man !!

    As previously noted on this forum my 18/12 D4 occasionaly blows blue smoke on acceleration ................................today i checked my oil level (electronically as these marvelous new fangeled motors don't have dipsticks) .................and it was in need of a top up ...........

    .. so ....i got a litre of the right oil .......and was about to put it in the right hole under the bonnet .....then i but my finger in the right hole .....and noticed the oil around the cap was BLACK ........like it had soot in it ......i did not put the top up in as this black oil looked strange and i thought id better leave it for LR to check out ..........
    ..................or is this normal ???......i have never had a deisal before ......so maybe it is .....but "forewarned is forearmed" ......................any thoughts or comments appreciated ?????

    Black oil is usual for a diesel, but the blue smoke is not. Get it fixed under warranty. LR have a fix for most cases but one required a new engine when fixes didn't work.

    Black oil is completely normal. Make sure you have the right oil. Castrol C1 Powerflow 5w30.

    As for the blue smoke, your turbo might be on its way out.

    Oh wait. Is it a 3 liter?

    Actually not sure that we have any style when it comes to spelling, we just tend to copy what the Poms did, who in turn took the word from the French whom originally derived it from old Latin if you really want to be pedantic about origin and spelling.

    Hi Terry,
    Not true when it comes to "metric" units. There is an Australian Standard for SI units. The spelling is thereby "set in stone".

    Ok Learner fair enough ...so in relation to this conversation can you please explain what the difference in spelling is between an Australian litre from the original please? ...
