    ARB Bullbar winch install

Hi All, Has anyone fitted a Avenger mako DTS 9.5 winch to a ARB Bar in a D3 (MINE 2005) if so did you have to rotate the free spooling end when mounting it vertically within the bar. I have noticed this has to be done with warn winches.

Havnt purchased it yet it gets good reviews. The only problem I see is that it only has three bolts holding that end on so you my not be able to get the end in a good position. Are there any other brands worthing trying other than warn as they are quite well priced and the use for me is not that hi.

I went for the Tigerz 11 winch - 12,000lb with plasma rope - I don't expect (or hope) to use it much and as such the "price was right" for my use - it was about $700 from memory,
    cheers

Tigerz 11 winch - 12,000lb with plasma rope for me too. Still only used it once, but always hopeful. Details of install and turning the gearbox here.

Thanks guys, I think the Avenger winch which only has three bolts holding the gear box on wont allow you to position it as a winch with eight or more bolts on the gear box. The Warn has to be rotated 144`deg to get the lever in a good position, so I may go with a VRS Winch which has 8 bolts holding the gear box on which are imported by Warn and have similar specs, the VRS 9000 for around $800- $900 for wire which I prefer, available from opposite lock and Ebay.

I just installed a tigerz 11 12000lb in my Opposite Lock bar which is very similar to the ARB bar.
I did look at the Avenger winches and OL install these in their bars so I'd be confident the gearbox rotates to a position where you can reach the freespool/clutch lever.

Rotating the gearbox on the Tigerz took about 10 minutes. 95% of the time spent removing and fitting bolts. Very easy to do.

Thats good info makes me feel more confident about purchaseing any of these winches. What I can see between the top brands and the cheap chinese brands is in the gear ratio of the winch. With the top brands they have a lot lower gear ratio so the winch speed is faster but the current (amps) are higher. The gear box would have to be a lot stronger in lower ratio boxes. On the other hand if your not in a hurry or dont use your winch very often the higher ratio boxes would be ok. With the 12000lb winches seems all they do is put in a higher ratio gear box from what I have found out
