Can I mix front & rear tyres on my D4 please?

    Hi Colleagues
Can I mix front and rear tyres on my D4 please?
I have two complete sets of wheels/tyres for my D4 – one set with road tyres and one set with off-road MTR’s and have been swapping each set to suit the trip.
I have just destroyed two of my near new Goodyear Wrangler 255/55R19 MT/R tyres in quick succession (sidewall damage) and can’t seem to source any replacements. Understand that these tyres are no longer being manufactured and are permanently out of stock globally.
The remaining three are in near new condition and I am looking for an opportunity to make best use of these remaining three.
I am wondering if I can run two of the remaining MTR either front or rear and some other close matched brand on the other two wheels? Can I do that? Would it be wise and legal? What might that other tyre be?
Or am I being silly and just need to bite the bullet?
Appreciate any wise suggestions please – cheers David

I fitted 2 of my every-day use GY Silent Armours to the front of my D2 for an outback trip when a significant cut was found in one the MTRs in the same size just before starting the trip. I was mindful of the likely increased oversteer due to the rear tyres having less sealed road grip but preferred to have the better off-road grip on the rear. I retained the MTRs on the rear after the trip to wear them out, whilst swappping the SAs about on the front to retain equal wear. In your position I'd probably keep the MTRs for the rear with fairly aggressive same size tyres on the front.

Either that or sell them individually to others who also need replacement MTR's and are prepared to pay a reasonable premium and put the money towards a permanent upgrade.
