Stuck in Canberra, Engine System Fault any ideas?

    Hi Fellow LR people,
Ok I'm on my way to Shoal Bay NSW from Geelong, going up the sizeable hill north of Gundagai towing my 18' van and, an Engine System Fault alert comes up on screen and engine goes into limp home. Does, anyone know what it might be? I am guessing it could be 100 things. Any advice on the Canberra LR dealer/service company? My ride is a D4 3ltr, SE with 36k on the clock.
Any advice, except to get another car, would be welcome!

There have been lots of discussions on this topic....I'm sorry I haven't followed them. Search the forum, I'm sure it was software related and no big issue.

I wouldn't trade my D4 for anything other than another one....and I've had some issues!

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Canberra Motor Works is the go but expect a sting in the tail. Still if your stuck with no power you will be happy to pay it.

Mine happened when towing a car from Melb to Sydney and probably about Holbrook. As it said it could b many things and mine being a d3 could be different.

First disconnect tue battery for a few min then reconnect and the fault will be cleared temporarily and if it reappears well then u have some issue.

Mine was the dreaded 132b which basically mnt a new turbo. Ouch.
If it blows big plumes of smoke and after say 2200 rpm it comes good then I may have similar. U can still drive it but u have to work the gearbox manually to stay above 2200rpm which means using 5th.

Get it to a LR dealer to check the code.

    More data, more data! Please.

Thanks for all of the advice so far, every bit helps. I will try the battery disconnect to do a hard reset, will I need any codes for radio's etc? All radios etc in my D4 are stock standard. I am guessing I won't as some of the modern cars get the authentication via the "system" but I'm not 100% sure.
    Thanks again.

I'm pretty sur that Disco4SE and a few others had the same problem a while ago well documented on the forum. It turned out to be software problem. There were software updates for all 3ltrs after that. Hopefully that wil be your problem although why yours may have not had the update is strange. It's still under warranty isn't it?

Roger - no radio codes are required after hard reset.

The only thing which might happen is reset the one-touch window controls. This occurred on my D4 drivers window after a hard reset, but not the other 3 windows. To reset: hold control and put offending window all the way down, then pull it all the way up, release and then hold back up again for 3 seconds.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    On the road again!

Took D4 to Lennocks in Phillip ACT. Arrived early after spending the night in the van on a mates driveway in Narrabunda. The staff at Lennocks were 110% helpful and understanding and squeezed the car in. The analyser said check injectors which they did, then it said upgrade the software. They had a bit of trouble and tried the up load 3 times and finally got it to work once the engine had cooled down! Handed car back, advised it was under warranty, shook my hand and off I went. Bloody good service, nice people. Im not sure if I am imagining it, but the fuel efficiency seemed to improve, anyhow got to Shoalbay latter than I needed to, but that's life, we have to roll with the punches some times. Thanks everyone for the advice, I decided not to do the hard reset as I figured the service tech might as well see the problem first hand as I was then in Canberra. The D4 towed the van so well, I am very impressed.
    Roger
