    D4 Sunroofs

    Hi All,

can someone tell me is there only one sunroof option for the D4, Alpine? eg three sunroofs across the roof of the vehicle.

Is there an option for a singular sunroof above the driver on the D4 offerred by LR? Some other manufacturers do offer different sunroof options.

Has anyone fitted a single sunroof with someone like Prestige sunroofs who normally do pre delivery roofs for manufactures?

Really wanting a sunroof when I order my D4 however seems there is only the alpine option.

My D2 has a single roof at the front which was apparently fitted pre delivery.

Welcome any insight or input on what options there are and if anyone has fitted a single sunroof to their D4.

    Thanks
    Jonathan.

Is there a reason why you don't want the Alpine roof?

Is it because of the cost?

Is it because you are worried about the heat that may be generated by it?

I ask this because I have the Alpine roof, I was not looking for a car with one but the best one I could find at the time had one. I was sceptical about the heat factor but I'm very happy with it. It makes the interior much brighter and airy.

    Hi Jonathon,

I had my Sunroof on my 2010 MY11 done from prestige after I took delivery. A better option as you don't get slugged the LCT also. The dealer got me a trade price also which saved on the RRP.

I too didn't want the Alpine roof as the shade didn't seem to do too much if you wanted to shut out the heat

I have had no issues at all

Be cautious of adding a sunroof after the purchase, we have had issues with insurance companies.

Not supposed to add as it will cut out support ridges....

    Cheers

Added Infra Red heat blocking film to sun roof.

I like the daylight coming in through the three lites in the roof but I did find that the roll up shades that block the lites tend not to block the heat rays. The three roof lites do give the interior a much bigger more open feel than without and is part of the appeal of the 3. If one was putting a roof rack on, I would think that the glass roof might not be the best option however.

Re reducing the heat transfer thru the three lites, I had the same almost clear Infra Red blocking film that I have applied to the front side glass also applied to the interior of the three roof lites. As with the side glass, there is now a noticeable reduction in the heat rays, (Infra Red), coming thru the roof lites. The link below should be to the LLumar brand heat transfer film that I had applied even though it appears to be to my jack adapter - do not know why the link names change as they do.

Guppy can i ask which dealer? I asume asking any LR dealer like MLR they would do it as part of the pre delivery?
My D2 has a prestige sunroof and still works fine with no issues 12 years on. (touch wood).

Pete thanks for the feedback. I just cannot justify the cost of the alpine roof and also the useage factor combined with the heat soak through. Most of the time its just me in the car, so i cannot really justify the need for three sunroofs and would rather spend the dollars on another option that I will get the most out of.

so i assume then that the alpine roof is the only option offerred?

    Thanks all.

    J,

I have the sunroof in mine, remember it is only 1 operational sunroof, on the front section only, the rest is a sheet of glass that does NOT open, but has 2 small roof lining blinds that can be opened or closed internally.

I personally love it, it lets light in & the cabin seems airy, if you are worried about heat build up then don't, you live in Melbourne remember not Cairns ;-)
On really hot day the good part is that the sunroof is there to open & let the hot air escape quickly.

This is my choice, not trying to sell u something you don't want, just giving some friendly advise.

    Cheers & good luck.

    Then 2010 D4 3.0 HSE 'James'
Then 2010 RRS TDV8 'Roger' w traxide DBS, UHF, Cooper Zeons, Superchips remap
    Then 2010 D4 TDV6 'Jumbo' w traxide DBS
    First love 2002 D2 TD5 'Disco Stu'

Roof panel is pressed differently to allow for sunroof.
There is allowance in that pressing to make it stronger as well as when added the cassette that the sunroof sits in make up the structural rigidity that the vehicle requires.

We used to send our vehicles out by the dozen to Prestige sunroof's when the Discovery2 was being delivered as there was plenty of room.

Discovery3/4/Spt we will NOT sublet a sunroof to be fitted before delivery.

If you want to do it, then its YOUR choice & money.
I have a friend that has done & yes it works fine looks good, again your choice.

    Cheers

    Hey Pete,
Where did your mate get his roof done?
Is a manually operated hinged type roof?

    Cheers, Craig
