GPS Off-Road mode - what instructions?

As a new owner of a RRS I am trying to find some detail on Off Road Mode in the GPS. I thought the manual would have some detail but nothing. Can anyone point me in the direction of some instructions or outline their experience perhaps.

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Craig

hi Craig; well thats opened the gate - you could get a deluge. But, on a productive note, after a year or so of swearing at it, we have recently discovered that after getting into Off Road Mode (on mine- MY11HSED4 - via the physical Nav button), then zooming right in to a few hundred m resolution; by magic there appears a vast network of tracks and very minor roads, even with the right names etc. Zoom out, and they are gone. But in some places places (SW WA for example) its hopeless, seemingly related to the road tenure - forest tracks that cant be seen from satellite arent mapped well, and they are not on road reserves etc. But anyway, we finally figured out that in 'normal' LR nav mode, all roads stop at the end of the blacktop, but going in to offroad and very finescale resolution showed that yes, we were actually travelling on a formed (dirt) road. [Its pretty weird to get to Maree in the worlds most awarded 4WD, and discover that the Birdsville Track doesnt exist...., neither Oodnadata, Strez etc.] Anyway, all that said, I now use combination of the LR in Offroad and MudMap for bush, and the LR just mainly for the blacktop stuff. So there you go - its been an experience..... good luck.

Craig, there should be a separate handbook for the nav system, which will show you how to drop pins, record trip, ect

Thanks trevorj will look into Mud Maps and thanks for the other points, really appreciated. The strange thing is that the manual has plenty of detail for the on road side of sat nav but nothing about the off road usage. I will contact LR Australia and see if they have can help.

Wow just tried the double Nav button press on my 2011 RRS and it works, asks for Onroad or Offroad on the next screen.
    Very surprised.
