    new front seats

Has anyone put alternate front seats in thier D3? My neck the head rest plus 5 years of use or abuse has made the cloth version in mine need seat covers to hide the use. Not looking to recover as I am not a big fan of the head rest. I guess the air bags make this a little hard to do but would love to hear your thoughts or actual efforts on new front seats.

    Thanks

i always found the leather seats in the d3 to be one of the best oem seats aound which allowed for hours of comfortable driving.

perhaps you could look at getting a set of leather seats from a vehicle being wrecked?

The seats are great, I agree they suite long distance driving all but for my size or my neck liking to be back about 3-5cm more than the head rest allows. Leather would be fine. Given lack of options or suggestions I might recover in leather and fix the head rest to suit myself while doing this. Several other threats on this minor issue.

It might just I have a very big head. Few people could borrow my hat which was very helpful while in the navy.

I have electric in the other one now the other half’s daily drive (lexus). Electric seats are slow and a little silly in my opinion, while position memory is interesting to some but honestly how long does it take to move a seat manually and check the mirrors.

    Easy fix? Do tell Geedublya

    Thanks Geedublya

After i got home after two hours drive and had a sore neck so had a go tonight. I found the instructions very useful but I straightened rather than turned the head rest.
I removed he head rest then found the cover and foam rubber is very easy to remove. It is a plastic clip at the base. See below

Once cover and foam removed it looked like this

The clip to lower the head rest is accessible with out bring the clip show out of the material. Just feel and depress to adjust after removing the two side bars as per Geedublya link.

I straightened the angle of the rods in my vice. This can be done with out removing the head rest cover and foam.

One side done showing the 1-2 inch more space I have for my big head.

Turning the whole head rest was looked at but I felt it was far too much. Best bit of this is this only took about fifteen minutes!

Mine have been straightened as you describe. You can cut off the bits of handle that protrude into the headrest, and then bolt them back on to the seat. Good Job.

The D4 seats have a more upright head-rest and don't have the side handle. The D3 head-rest angle was about the only problem my wife and I detected when we test-drove a D3 in 2008, although I knew about the modification so would have adjusted it anyway.
