OK,what about we throw a couple of these in
Just to make everyone feel better.
I know where there are six 79 series traybacks just two yrs old on a property in central Qld.They have all had the steering racks replaced and one also had an engine replaced, all under warranty.

						Don't worry,you will be OK
When i bought the first D2 in '99,everyone said they were full of electrickery and we would have all sorts of problems.
After 13yrs and many long trips in remote areas,we never had a breakdown, ever.Had a couple of flat tyres, until i changed to BFG,then none.In fact the last one,the D2a was one of the best vehicles i have ever owned.
Hopefully the D4 will be the same.
Didn't realise that scenic rim park was so close, need to have a look at it.

Over sights can happen when services are done. Hopefully its just a loose hose or filter.
My old man had an E36 and the mechanics forgot to tighten the bottom hose on the radiator after flushing the radiator. Needless to say it was shortly back on a tilt tray back to the shop to be rectified.

						SupporterPearcher,
Don't be put off...I'm sure as mentioned, it will be an issue with whoever serviced it??
I have a 2005 D3 bought 4 years ago with 40K on it....have just ticked over 140K!!. The only issues I've had (with regular servicing...much cheaper than a diesel) was the lower front bushes (known issues), air compressor (Which I don't think was the issue) and strangely enough the Clock Spring (Drives the buttons on the steering wheel)
I've been to most parts of NSW up any track I can find and recently did an ACT, SA, Alice, Uluru, Oondadatta, Lake Ayre, Flinders trip.....has not missed a single beat...and goes anywhere...point and drive! This week, the wife has driven from ACT to Ballarat and back....I'm worried she will not give up the keys on her return!!
You will only get 400Km out of a tank around town and 650Km on the open road...but, the past couple of months I've been looking to upgrade to a D4 3tlr and have been dissapointed with the engine performance....nothing beats the joy of the V8 petrol.....when I do buy, it's going to take months to ween myself off the performance!! (Have had diesels before but justified the price difference on the cheaper petrol version!)
Hoping it will be a simple fix and you get lots of pleasure out of it!!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Colin, we have the same surname!! I actually can't remember the last time I met or heard of someone in Australia with our name. (Maybe I haven't?). Who would have thought... 2 Pedersen's on AULRO!!!

So took the D3 in on a flat bed today as I was too busy at work yesterday to manage it.
And the winner is....oil filter not tightened up.
Car picked up this afternoon absolutely filthy (you'd think they could have thrown a bucket of water over it considering) with two guard to guard pinstripes on the passenger side for my troubles.
Dropping by on the way to work tomorrow to hello again.
