The manager at the tyre service down the road dislikes those very wide, very low profile super sticky tyres fitted to many high performance cars. He says the tyres last no distance at all, 15,000 k's being very, very good. Most are worn out well before this. The tyres are VERY pricey and he quotes on a new set, then gets abused as if it is his fault that they bought a performance car with expensive sticky tyres, and proceeded to drive crap out of it . Some of these things are left or right, drive or steer only, and some are made for particular makes (Corvette, Porsche, maybe others).

He reckons the one thing many of the owners have in common other than a fast car is that they have no money and go white when quoted $3,000 and more for a set of tyres. They then have to juggle credit cards to find one that still allows them to charge, or they have to go away and borrow the money.

I see lots of tyres that are down to the canvas, usually on the front of FWD vehicles often with asian drivers. I often wonder if they just don't understand the implications or even if they ever check their tyres.

I also see high performance Commodores and Falcons with 200 + KW with really cheap chinese tyres in 18-21" sizes. Makes me think that the car is all about the look and not about performance.

I agree with the thoughts about Asian drivers; they have no idea or interest about the round black things which keep the rims off the road. Just keep them as cheap as possible/flashy as possible. When I first met my wife (Asian) she had a car with recaps. I have since in the last 25 years given her an education.
In my business I am more than aware of the worth of tyres which are suitable for the purpose and they are what I fit to the vehicle; then I haggle the price for a good deal.

    Seriously?
These are racist BS generalisations that are offensive. Lets just stick to the D4 specific stuff. There are plenty of other outlets on the internet for this sort of stuff.
    Not OK.

I don't believe any offence was meant. Yes it's a generalisation, like saying most Asians have dark hair. As a generalisation, car maintenance isn't something asians highly prize. We all work with each others strengths and weaknesses.

    Get over it.

The moral of the story is that just because you own a nice car, doesn't mean you can afford the maintenance. And just because you own a nice car, doesn't mean you can't indulge in a little profiling - I mean generalising.

    Over it.

    OH DEAR!!!!
I am sorry if I have offended some people but my wife fully agrees with what I have said.
Once again I apologise to those who may be offended, but I was brought up in the old way and have not learnt properly the new touchy feely politically correct phraseology of this modern world. I tend to call it as I see it.
    SORRY....

Last comment and I'll leave this alone.....

While I was not personally offended, I imagine a car proud person from an Asian background may have found the generalisation offensive, notwithstanding your wife's views.. I guess I'd like to think anyone from any background that loves their Disco is able to participate in this forum and feel comfortable.

Of course if they want to start discussing the merits of DC to DC converters for charging ancillary batteries then the gloves come off!

    SORRY....
At least we know where you stand.
I'd rather deal with you than someone who says one thing and does another.
Call it as you see it ... this western world has gone mad!

Now, about that DC to DC converter ... 😜
