    allied Intercooler

    Hello Together,

Just wondering whether someone in OZ has a Allied Fast Road Intercooler installed in his D3 and whether I would have any issues with my OL bullbar and the Intercooler.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve,

Don't know anything about these units but just thought I would mention that there is another replacement high mount intercooler I have seen advertised elsewhere for D3's.

From memory about $1500, so this one looks quite good for the price. I will look for it and if I find it I will put up the link.

    cheers,
    Terry

    Hi Steve,
I've been running an allisport offroad high mount inter cooler for nearly 2 years now on a tdv6 and highly recommend them. Mine has been fitted in behind an ARB bullbar with a 9500 warn in it. Fitting is time consuming to do right but not complicated. I must admit that due to time constraints I had a workshop fit mine but it was them that said it was straight forward enough but having a winch and bar just made for extra work. It has done over 60 000k's around Aus. since it was fitted and has been solid.
    regards
    Brian
P.S I think it may be the same one as terry has referred too. However when I purchased mine it was about $900 delivered but I don't remember what the fitting cost.

@ terry thanks great if you find the link though the allied seems to be cheaper

@ Brian that's encouraging, from the UK they 599 pound + shipping so around 1 k
Saw some tutorials of the installation and seems like biggest job is to get bull bar etc removed, might get Peter from Roving Mechanics to lend me a paid hand

    Hi Brian,

So the question that needs to be asked, did the larger intercooler make any difference in performance and ful economy as they claim?

    cheers,

Hi Guys, short answer, power increase YES!! Fuel economy not sure but it's has not been detrimental to economy, I shall elaborate in a few days when I get home and have better internet connection.

Hm had a look at the allied web site and seems like intercooler goes quite a bit up
In front of radiator. I have the auxiliary transmission cooler there so may not actually be able to install intercooler. Does someone by any chance has both installed?

According to Davis Performance Allied Intercoolers used to be questionable quality?
he said he does not know whether they have improved but wants to import some and have a look and possibly then manufacture them in better quality here. Good thing he seems to think it will not interfere with my transmission oil cooler.

    AlliSport FastRoad Intercooler D3 install

After much debate (and discussion with ~Rich~), I installed an Allisport FastRoad intercooler as a Christmas present to my 2008 D3. My aim was to increase mid range torque for towing, improve fuel economy and generally have the engine, or at least the air inlet, run a bit cooler in really hot weather. Strategy was/is bigger intercooler first then ECU flash later if more required. I am only at 1st base so far.

Allisport make the low mount "FastRoad" and a high mount "OffRoad" which is a little smaller with I assume with less cooling capacity but easier cleanability. The OffRoad also fits above a hidden low mount winch.

It's very hard to tell if there is a marked difference given the really hot WA weather since the pre-Christmas install and I haven't been towing the boat but I'll let you know in a month or so after a few tanks. Also hard to tell if the overall running temperature is lower without specific equipment to measure inlet temps as the dash temp gauge never moves anyway.

I did the install myself and took a day or so given it was the 1st time I'd pulled the bumper off. It would take me about 4 hours now I recon. But I did find a really good step by step YouTube video by Tactical Rovers in the US on removing the front bumper: http://www.google.com.au/url'sa=t&rc...41018144,d.dGY
The only mod necessary was a small "tweek" to one flange and to relocate the outside temp sensor. I also have 4 small bolts left over

Product quality looks good to me (and I am a fussy mechanical engineer), especially the cooling core and the alloy welding and it bolted straight in. And it's nice and shiny . I too spoke with Davis Performance and got the same "opposition supplier's poor quality" spiel and chose to just file this for future reference.

I also installed a new silicon intercooler outlet hose. There are a few posts about the LR original splitting. And the new one is a nice bright blue

Photos attached showing original intercooler with small oil cooler above, new and old, an un-intercooled D3, and the installed FastRoad.
