The pic doesnt really do it justice. so here is my opinion....
I think the layout looks rather smart :p
The TR "switch" is easy to use, its just a switch to tab left or right (if i can do it anyone can;))
Flappy paddles OffRoad i agree, but are fun to play with on the road downshifting.

And yes a "Latte" cup fits perfectly on the rotary dial, a holder it shall be[biggrin]

I've used the flappy paddles in a Sport, on a test drive at Eastnor last year.

Once you're used to them (which doesn't take long), they're eminently usable off road. Ace onroad though :cool:

Hey Sniegy, if my D4 gets to port on the 7th of Jan how long till I can pick it up..... :)

The photo doesn't do it justice. In the flesh it makes the centre console very clean and uncluttered. Rotary knob is a bit weird to use, just something to get used to I guess.

As for the flappy paddles, they are actually really good on-road. Haven't driven with them off-road yet, but don't see a big problem. I tend to select a gear then drive an obstacle without changing gear so wouldn't normally used them when all crossed-up. Again, just something different to get used to.

What a load of rubbish, is it still 4WD:confused: or are they trying to get Ferrari drivers to switch over.

We won't be buying one that's for sure, as good as our D4 is and we do love it, LR lost us with there lack of customer service and the fact that an offroad vehicle goes to the bumpstops at the slightest hint of a suspension fault, not very good when you're offroad, stupid idea:twisted:

While I think (from first hand experience) that flappy paddles are a complete toss and not having a gear stick is even more of a stupid idea for a 4x4 chances are this new D4 will still be a better drive than the existing model.

Sure the air suspension is a pain when it fails, but when it works we all rave about it. I didn't see to many people queing up to buy coil sprung D3 versions over the air sprung version when coils were available. If your worried about it failing easy just buy one of Gordon's EAS kits and pretty much all is good, like all things in life you have to take the bad with the good and in 99% of cases with the air suspension the good out weighs the bad.

I'll wait for this new model to get delivered and then see what the new owners think before 100% making up my mind. If its no good then there is always the new 8 speed Jeep Grand Cherokee that arrives mid year that is many tens of thousands of dollars cheaper and has a closed compressed nitrogen suspension system that there aren't to many story's of failures with.

The other option for those who think the Disco is to much like a car now is wait two years and see what the new Defender will be like.

I had the pleasure (experience) of driving the D4 with the 'on steering wheel' gear change at Sollihull in August. I thought the console layout whilst different to my own D4 (2011) was O.K. and was in some respects more 'natural' to operate.

Having the gear change on the wheel was an absolute pain in the proverbial on the off road course! Even the LR instructor acknowledged that they were having much discssion about it internally to the LR business.

As for the 'on road' aspects I have the auto gear box so I don't have to change gears myself! For the very few times I feel the need to operate the vehicle in semi auto then the 'stick' works well.

But hey, I am an old fart and no doubt the 'Stig's amonst us need something to more play with.:angel:
