    Should I buy a December 2102-build D4 or wait for 2013-build

My dealer is pushing me on a December-build silver D4 TD6. It's mid-$70s with my trade-in (a very tired 2002 D2). The alternative is a black 2013-build that can't come for eight weeks. Both D4's come with upgraded audio, rear cam, leather, etc. No 7-seats in the black 2013 though (but it is 4 grand cheaper)

I'm looking a a shortish lease to get to the redesigned Sport next year. Am I going to take more of a hit on the 2012-build if I get out under two years. I really need a car now so that's a consideration.

    Decisions, decisions....

I would try and find a demo model, I paid similar, no trade in on 2012 sdv6 SE D4, upgraded audio, rear camera, 7 seats, xenon lights... with 5000km on it.

At least the dealer takes some of that brand new car price hit, and your car is still practically new.

    Cheers

Isn't the December build classed as an MY13 ?
If i was buying a second hand car a month would not phase me.
When looking at red book, the values seem to be based on model year....not month of manufacture.

What ever you do if you buy new you'll take a hit.

I just enquired about trading in my Feb 2011 (del April 2011) 52km SDV6 with sat nav Hi-ICE etc etc for the same car in a 2013 model. He offered me $47 for mine and wanted $47 more for his.

The salesman couldn't work out why I didn't even take his piece of paper with the quote on it .

The rego certificate will always say 2012. Everywhere I research says the build date is what dealers go by with trade-ins.

If you're going for a new Sport when they come out, don't take anything like two new car depreciation hits.

Find a nice clean second hand D4 3 litre and buy it out of the paper (it looks like Kenl has a nice one). "Camp" in that until you're ready to move to the Sport. You might even want to wait a little bit in an attempt to avoid the early run beta version of the Sport and get an MY2015.

You will be so happy in your D4 you won't be in a hurry to get out.

Exactly. I'm still interested in a new TDV6 (I thinking black ext/int) but maybe too much black! And yes wait until the 2015 Sport. If I buy a new D4 I can claim the GST. Dealer's used prices are too high and private seller rarely include GST.

    I'm told though that I can't get a black custom build until mid-April. I was thinking of speccing it as such;

    · Santorini Black
    · Black interior
    · Rear Electronic Diff
    · Hi line audio
    · Leather
    · Rear Camera
    · Privacy Glass
    · Xenon Headlights & LED

Or just buy a cheaper car like a D2 to tide you over until the new Rangie is here. Won;t lose much/any money that way.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I don't think so. I'm getting out of my 2002 D2. I won't even try to bore people with the horrors stories we've had with that car.

    D1 then.

Just seems to me that you will drop a lot of $$$ if you buy a Disco4 for the purposes / length of time you mentioned.

Although if you do, feel free to gift it to me when you get the RRS !
