Most of the discussion on this topic of comparing the 3.0 with the 2.7 on other threads has been comparing the full spec 3.0 with the 2.7.
But now we have the low spec 3.0 with not a lot more power but still quite a bit more torque - so obviously this 3.0 will be ahead of the 2.7 but by how much - is it really worth getting this 3.0 noting the low spec 3.0 replaced the 2.7 in the new car line up.

I have posted the following sentiments before.
I drive 2009 2.7TDV6 D3, now with circa 87,000 on the clock. I have loved almost every minute of ownership.
Never once have I wished for more power.
I do not tow regularly so that is not an issue for me.
I do use it off road but on 18 in rims, i have not yet felt the need to get 17in rims and would not be put off by 19in rims on the D4 to be honest.
I often load it up with family and camping gear and as above I have never felt under powered, I am always surprised how strong the 2.7 TDV6 is. It will cruise fully loaded at or above the speed limit all day comfortably.
If you get the 2.7 you will be happy.
However by all reports however the 3.0 is just that much better.

One of my mottos as a builder is "the job is remembered long after the price is forgotten". Same goes with the 3.0.
I spent the initial $ at the beginning to purchase the 3.0 and never looked back.

If you are looking at new? then the price saving on a Low pressure 3.0Ltr is hard to go past. It is greatly improved from the 2.7 (which I don't have a problem with as I own one) & obviously not as powerful as the High pressure 3.0Ltr.
Seriously consider having a look at both, I think you will come away Very surprised & with a great saving still in your pocket.

Craig, I only mention the Belt/Chain issue as an servicing cost. The 2.7 Ltr Td as fitted to the Discovery 3 & early D4 as a cheaper option runs two belts for timing. The belt at the front of the engine that controls cam timing is the one to worry about. If it has not been changed at its service interval its not a matter of it it will break but when. Repairs after that would make your eyes water. The rear belt times the fuel pump. If it breaks you just stop then walk. The 3ltr engines use chains so have a much longer service life. If you were considering an D3 V6 Td with over 100,000km you would want to know the service history. regards Chris
Same story for me, glad I have never driven a 3.0 because I don't know what I am missing, but often amazed by how good my 2.7 is. I have never had a driving moment when I have thought I wish I had more power although the little lag on take off can be annoying until you get used to it and figure out how to work around it.Quote:

From what I have read the transmission on both these motors is the ZF 6HP26 requiring ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid, pan and filter replacement at some service interval. I have searched the ZF Friedrichshafen AG | Startseite | Antriebstechnik und Fahrwerktechnik but am unable to locate the service kit number for this transmission. :mad: Does any member have the service kit number?

Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3) Repair Manual. This manual I imagine would be very close to the D4 but would not have the 3.0 liter motor, Is there any manual that would cover the D4 3.0 motor.

I believe the 3.0L is ZF6HP28.
ZF themselves should be able to give you the info you need (and the kits). There is a branch in SA.

Sleeping wood - the MY13 still comes with the 183kw model. It's just the base TDV6 that comes with the 155.
