Discovery 4 2013 rear seat and cargo boot space permanent DC power

    Hi All,

A quick guide in PDF to provide permanent power to the accessory sockets at the rear seats and in the boot space area.

This topic has been covered in past threads, wanted to put my 20 cents worth on it.

Is the one for the front Aux power socket the R3 relay marked with the cigarette symbol? As I'll be installing additional rear sockets with a second battery, I'd like to have the front sockets live to charge phone and keep the UHF (using a battery saver) live.

    Thumbs up

I believe R3 does control both lighters on the console. Will investigate after Easter.

Just needed permanent fridge power while going north to Mungo.

Just played around with this and on the MY12 D4 R1 controls front right, 2nd row and rear, while R3 controls front left.

When I put the vehicle in for a service I change the little mods (GEO rods, Relay bypass etc) back to original, saves any problems if there is an issue. I do find bypassing the power save relays R1 and R3 handy but with my fat fingers find it awkard to put the jumper in so I dug around my box of auto elec bits and found a couple of relays. I popped these open, removed the coil and contects, modified a couple of female spade conectors and soldered them onto the relay pins. A little dremmel work on the cover to accept a std blade fuse and have a nearer and easier to swap out a fused relay bypass.
    Just thought I'd share this.

Doss anyone know if r3 also controls usb port power? As another option I have run a fused power line from my second battery to the switched side of the relay hence giving permanent power from the second battery.
