Just remember though that as its registered as a 7 seater, the removal can only be temporary.

Its not a big job to undo the torx bolts, but quite heavy to lift out on your own.

Then a false floor can be made up with some access hatches.....there are some pics on previous posts.

It's a pretty straight forward job to remove the "extra" seats - took me about an hour (including the seatbelts) about eight big bolts from memory then I notified "VicRoads" of the removal - filled in the paperwork & had the vehicle inspected at our local rego branch (two minute inspection) and I now have an "official" five seater and lots of storage room for my camping stuff ... and I sold my "extra" seats to a member on here who wanted some for his five seater so a "win win" for me (and him)
Do it yourself and save $2300 ....

The trick is to have the correct sized torx sockets and to remove the side trims that cover the outer seat bolts. You remove the tie down points and the side floor panels are clipped into the floor and near the seat release buttons. I can't remember what else had to be undone to remove these panels but once removed it is easy to access all the bolts. I found the instructions using a Google search on the internet.

Note that all the bolts that hold the seat are vertical into the floor. The horizontal bolts that look like they might be holding the seat in do not get undone. You remove the floor panel and then it is obvious which bolts you must undo.

It is even easier to remove the centre row seats if you want lots of storage and lighter weight. I removed all except one of the rear seats on last year's Cape York trip which made storage for 4 weeks away very good. I left the last seat because we had three people in the car.

Something i have been thinking of doing for a while.

What is the ply coated with,is it some type of glued carpet?Does the ply also need something under it, along the edges so it does not mark the the interior floor of the vehicle.

The ply has support down both sides & across the front - it's coated with a "marine" grade carpet. Easy project really and under the false floor you get some extra storage for items that you carry but don't need to get at very often eg spare fanbelt/hoses etc...
and those rear seats which you remove weigh about 40 kgs so a saving there as well.
    cheers

    Hi BobD

I could not get the instructions when I searched Google

    GD4,

I can't find them either but it is not a difficult job.

From memory, remove the 4 tie down points using a 6mm hex socket (edit). The side floor panels can then be removed by prying them up as they are held by clips similar to the door trim panels or plastic trims over the sills.

Once you remove these and raise the hinged plastic covers over the bolts in the centre between the two seats you can remove the bolts pretty easily. These are larger torx bolts than the tie down bolts so you need a bigger torx socket. I got a set of torx bits that fit a half inch drive socket spanner.

The bolts are locktited so they require a bit of effort to remove. Do not try to remove any of the bolts that connect bits of the seats together. The correct bolts are obvious once you remove the side floor panels and expose them.

The two seats are connected together and are pretty difficult to remove due to their width, heavy weight and the fact that the connection between them is pretty bendy and flexible. The various bits are also not held in position very well when out of the car so bits of seat can flop around as you lift them. Two people can do it but it is an effort and you can easily scratch the trim on the way through. It feels like something will permanently bend but it is actually pretty strong and doesn't seem to get damaged while you are lifting the seat by each side rail. I took mine out and put it back after finishing the trip and it is all OK and works properly.

As I said, the key is the side floor panel removal and the correct large torx sockets to do the job.

Hopefully that helps since we can't easily find the good instructions that I found before.

    Bob
