When engine cold, sounds like air bleeding off ?

Hi, when getting going with the engine cold, for a little while I have what sounds like air bleeding off at the firewall on the left side of engine.
The sound comes on and off until it warms a little , a few kilometres, and then will not happen until the next day when starting out cold again.
If somebody else here has had same issue and had it repaired, at least I have a direction when talking to the dealer instead of him looking at me like I'm going mad which I suppose this forum is all about.
I am a Diesel Fitter in a past life so realize sound does travel and can be hard to pinpoint when moving but am hoping somebody else has had same fault.
 Thanks
