    D4 V8

    Anyone got one?

    Review?

I've been told the E-Diff is standard, confirmation?

    Hi GW,
Just looked on the LR Australia site and it says this:
    _____
As Standard with this model of Discovery 4

    CENTRE ELECTRONIC LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL
    PERMANENT FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE
FRONT/REAR SPLIT AND LOCKABLE CENTRAL DIFFERENTIALS
    ACTIVE REAR LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL
    HILL START ASSIST (HSA)
    ACTIVE ROLL MITIGATION (ARM)
    _____

It has a few other features listed there too - like GAC!

Mind you - for the price, it would want to have it too!

I had an MY12 as a loan car earlier in the year. Very nice car, certainly had all the fruit, but I must admit I was disappointed. I felt the SDV6 went just as well - and it didn't have a enough of a V8 rumble for me.

If you want all the options and you don't like diesel, it would be a good thing. Otherwise, its a lot of money.

    Cheers,
    Jon

I agonised over the the choice of SDV6 or V8 for a while. In the end, the better torque of the SDV6 and the depreciation slaughter of the V8 convinced me to go the diesel way. I got a Luxury Edition to have the same bells and whistles as the V8. Three months on I'm happy with that choice.

Thanks for the responses. Depreciation isn't such a problem as I won't be buying new.

The problems I can foresee are fitting a steel bullbar and a snorkel. The V8 breathes through both left and right mudguards and I have yet to see a snorkel for the LHS.

I think the petrol has some advantages over the diesel as there are no intercoolers, intercooler pipes or turbos, the cams are chain driven and there is no HPF pump to worry about.
Fuel economy is not as good however it does quite well for a 5 litre with 276kw (fuel is covered by my salary package as well). A long range tank will take care of range concerns.

I always recommend the V8 for the above reasons and the sound.

(and also so there are as many as possible when I want a D4 V8 on the used market in a couple of years ... )
