    D3 versus D4

    Hi.

Just a quick question. Im thinking about upgrading from my 2006 D3. So my question, is the new D4 been corrected in respect to the wheel alignment. with the d3, almost every service, I was informed that the unit required a alignment, I was informed this was required due to the fault in the D3.
Hope the D4 has been improve, if not, may have to look at the new VW.

    Cheers

I never had to get a wheel alignment in my D3 and that had all sorts of tyres on it 19, 18 & 17 from stock thru to MTR's & MTZ's.

Never had any uneven wear patterns & got good mileage out of them all.

That was MY 09 D3 with Llams & went off road.

D4 is at 23,000 km & does not need wheel alignment.
    Cheers

    Robert,

I learned early on with the D3 that a wheel alignment and more importantly, a tyre rotation was a must do each service if I didn't want to scrub out the sides of the tyres. I've heard nothing to say the D4 is any different and after 50k I'm looking for new tyres due to the uneven wear on the front tyres.

Had my D3 for 4 years now and have never had a wheel alignment, on second set of tyres, first set lasted 50k and wore very evenly second set is pretty new but nit showing any signs of scrubbing.

Ditto with my 05 D3, best vehicle I've ever had for even tyre wear.

Likewise with my 06 D3 - no issues in 90k's i had it; and no issues with D4 at 45k's.

I have always had tyres rotated and balanced every 10000.

In every case the alignment has been slightly out (on all vehicles)....I always watch it get done. The alignment error I cannot feel.

Those that say they don't need a wheel alignment....how do you know without putting it on an aligner ? I don't think 50000 is special.

I always get very high mileage from tyres.

    Hi Brett..

I do agree, that a alignment is required on all 4x4, but my 2006 D3 (now 7 1/2 yrs old), with only 43000km on the clock would require an alignment every 6 months from the dealer.

    Where do you live Robert?
Perhaps others who live close to you could recommend an alternative wheel alignment business.
Be aware though the suspension should be set to "Tight Tolerance Mode" for the alignment.
