Mine just sits in the back with a couple of rubber bungees to the tie down points, not as convenient as on a slide, but a whole lot cheaper and more flexible
Hi All,
I am looking to mount my engel fridge in the rear of our D3, the problem comes with how, we have 3 kids and we regularly use all 7 seats ( Inlaws, friends etc,) so will only be fitting it temporarily when we head bush, and I am curious to see/hear how others have temp fitted the fridges whilst keeping one of the rear seats free and useable. so lets hear/see peoples ideas.
Thanks in advance
Andy

Hi there
I fixed an ARB fridge slide to a base made from 18mm ply. The ply is full width of the luggage space with a hole in each corner where the tie down brackets are. when I am using it I replace the tie down bolts with 25mm washers and s.s. bolts with an eye on top so that I can then still tie things down in the back or use a cargo net.
Best to put a bit of carpet or similar under the ply at the tailgate side to make sure the slide clears the tailgate when open.
All up, it works well.

I started with my 50lt Waeco on a slide screwed to a piece of ply as did Tony S. However it is not quite as heavy as buggery but it almost is. I am now toying with a U bracket to elevate the slide slightly to ensure it clears the tailgate on the slide out. I haven't yet worked out my solution for fixing the bracketed slide to the floor. We also use the 3rd row seats regularly and don't want to block them.
I just completed two week to Fraser with 4 kids. I ran an ARB fridge in the place of the 7th seat tied front and back to the tie down points on the side with a couple of 1 inch roof rack straps, more so in case of roll over than movement during trip. It pulled tight against each other making a firm hold. I also placed a mat underneath for protection. I run a Traxide system but I left the tails loose coming out of jack cover rather than fixing them. Worked perfect!
...Sorry no photo. It's back to being a school bus.
A say, 35kg+ fridge travelling at 100kmh when you hit something or roll will snap the seats clean off and anything else in its way. I have had to stay a while in rehab centres after an accident and that would be the best outcome for you if it happened, the other way, you or yours are in a fridge on the bottom floor at the hospital.Mine just sits in the back with a couple of rubber bungees to the tie down points
Being in a roll-over is like slow motion too and pretty scary. Please secure it a bit better than bungee straps if you have others in the car, if on your own, use your bungees if you have plenty of life insurance or don't care that somebody else may be spoon feeding you and changing your diapers for years till you pass away.
The sight of people like this in a rehab centre stays with you forever.
I cant believe you owned up to that.
Hi andylandy
I have a snappy strap at the rear running around the folded seat below and the front of the fridge is the same but to the cargo barrier both points are central to fridge and low.
the tie down points are to the side of the fridge making for a sloppy fit.

Thanks for the responses guys, spent a bit of time in the back of the car today whilst fitting the fridge power socket and think me and my dad may have sussed something out, once i have knocked it up i will post up some pictures, but to give you an idea with one of the rear seats up i will run bars between the anchor points across the bootspace, and then make a frame work to hold the fridge slide over the seat that is staying down. the bars from the ancor points will go behind the seat back and just below the seat base of the seat that is staying up. Quite hard to explain but hopefully it'll work and keep the fridge nice and secure too!
Cheers
Andy
