    My 2013 D4 oil

    Hi All.

Just pick up my 2013 D4, and will be doing a big trip part way round Aust. Asked the service manager where I purchased the D4 about oil that should go into if I require to top it up, he informed me that I can not buy the oil over the counter, but would not have to do any topping up between services,, new car will use oil. Does anyone know.

    Robert

In the first few thousand Ks I used very little, but still took it back for a top up. Since then it uses so little between oil changes there is no need for topping.
Depends how you drive it as well. Drive normally for the first few Ks and also find a steep winding road for the sheer enjoyment, as well as making the engine work over a range of engine speeds and throttle settings.
My favourite is Bellengen to Dorrigo up the Waterfall Way; had a great run up there following a ML 350TDI Merc a week ago; wifey just hung on

    Get the Oil

My experience was similar to Plane Fixer but I did not require a top up. In fact over the last 2 years of ownership I have not had to add oil other than for my regular service arrangements.

You can buy the recommended Castrol Oil in a 20L drum (take your bank manager with you).

I think that Penrite now have a compatible oil on the market so if you feel the need for a bit of travelling comfort and want to carry some oil you could check you local Auto shop for the Penrite stuff.

Be sure to check that any oil you buy / use meets the required specs as shown in the good book!

Southerns gave me a litre bottle of the oil.....without blinking an eye.

    Still have the litre bottle.

It's not a Toyota Diesel, so don't need to worry about using oil.

Touareg came with a litre bottle....never used any oil either.

Only car I have ever had that used oil during the first 5000 was my WRX MY 2002....that was about a litre from memory.

I was one notch below half way after 6000km and needed a litre of oil and the turbo drain fix. All sorted now, I hope, but if the OP has a problem similar to mine (and many others albeit a minority) then he will need to add oil at some stage.

Based on my experience, if I wasn't going to be near a dealer, I'd be getting myself a litre of oil from the dealer and taking it with me. Wait until it gets below half way and make sure you check the level first thing in the morning, erring on under filling because overfilling will lead to an unfortunate series of events.

Just went through this yesterday, apparently you can only buy the said oil in a 20l drum - around $360-$380. Or as the dealer said, bring your own container and they would sell some from their 200l drum. I have done about 8000km and my oil indicator is just one mark above the half way mark. Will I make it to the 26000km service without a top-up? This is my concern. Once run-in it probably won't be a problem. How much oil have others used when running in their vehicle?

    Top Up!

No top up of oil required when running in or between service intervals on my D4.

Remember though, my D4 is not your D4!

It does pay to be ever mindful that the D4 is a mechanical device (with lots of eletrical thingy's) and there will be differences in behavour between individual vehicles.
