    Fire extinguisher placement

    Hi all

Looking for a spot to mount a fire extinguisher in a D4. I was thinking on the front passenger floor, just in front of the seat (small angled part of the floor) but when it was last in for a service the stealer said they couldn't mount there as they was nothing to screw firmly to?
I'm not too keen to start drilling holes in the floor without knowing what's under it!!!

I've seen others mounted to the cargo barrier, but I often take this out to use the 2 rear seats...

Any suggestions! Apart from let it roll around the floor :-)

    Cheers

Not sure if this is going to be applicable to a D4, but it works great with a 5 seat D3.

I have an extinguisher mounted each side to the rear seat base, needs a small spacer each side to take the load to the frame rather than the plastic trim.

FYI. If your extinguisher is under 3kg don't bother!

    It won't be enough!!!

With the one in the pic, I have saved two taxis from burning to the ground using one of that size.

Now though I drive right past burning cars as the two taxis drivers never reimbursed me for the extinguishers....but if its a pretty girl than that's another story.

It depends on what sort of rating your fire extinguisher has; not all 3kg are rated the same, although most 1kg have pretty low ratings.

Back OT; has anyone mounted one under the driver's seat? I wonder if there is enough strength behind the plastic panel there.

Mine is mounted sideways on the front of the rh rear seat. ( not onto the floor ) The seat still folds forward over it, and it sits under the legs of anyone in that seat. It is tight and I messed around a fair bit mounting it. I figured it would be useless if I could not access it quickly. No point mounting it in the rear cargo area, particularly when there is a load in there.

    Extinguisher position

    Hi There,
Here is mine in position in my RRS, had the extinguisher in my D3 in roughly the same spot, I haven't put one in a D4.
    Easily accessible from the back.

Ditto mine on D4 5 seater. I removed the plastic trim and have the extinguisher on the outside if I am on a trip. Otherwise mounted on the inside of the frame normally. Used an existing hole, drilled another and had to use spacers.
