    D3 stuck key in ignition

Ok so I drove the D3 to the station this morning, parked, hand brake on, went to remove the key and it wouldn't budge.

Before I had my thinking cap on I had a small freak out wiggling the key.
Then it clicked, not the keys fault at all, how could I be mad at him.

Moved the gear selector out of P and back and hay presto out comes Mr Key.

Anyone else had this issue before?
Would it be the start of a selector issue, or a cable related problem, or is it a switch not on the box but on the selector in the car that could be out of place or adjustment?

A one of could just be slight misalignment.

If it happens again there may be something to it.

More likely just a timing issue - you put the box in park as you turned the key - jamming the detent or something similar.

Let us know how you get on on the return journey.

Just got word from the misses, has happened to her a couple of times as well. but as you said could be a timing issue.

I will make sure the timing is being done right, and give it a good test on Saturday as we have a full day driving around Mt Walker.

    Thanks Tombie.

    Cheers,
    Ben

Mine has done it to me several times but each time I was in a hurry. Not sure exactly what freaks it out but if I take my time between each step I don't have an issue. Never happened to my wife but she takes 15 minutes to get out of the car anyway.

Same here, happened once when I was in a hurry and tried to turn it off put it in park and take the key out all at the same time.

Must admit I reefed the key that hard I thought I had broken it, I'm very careful now as knowing my luck next time it will break.
    Cheers,
    Terry

I am hoping it was in my haste to get out, you know being overly excited to go to work and all.

And I only have one key, looking into getting another one now, and I am not paying 600+ for one, that is ridiculous!

No need to pay $600 for a key, have a ferret around on eBay UK. I bought one, and it cost about $75 shipped. You've only got to worry about the cutting and coding then.

I've had the same problem when I was new to the car and tried to take the key out too fast ... just allow that extra second after putting it into "park" and it all works O.K. - must be one of those "Landrover things"

Update on the initial posted problem.

The key gets stuck every single time the car is parked and turned off.

I have to start it again, move the selector back into drive and SLAM it back into park, this process can take 2 to 3 times every time before the key can be removed. No fault showing on the dash of course

I tried selecting slowly with a bit of force, I tried selecting fast, Tried it hand brake on, tried it hand brake off, even tried a multi step into park out back into park without turning off the car, still key wont come out until it is forcefully slammed into park. Strange, and I certainly hope I am not damaging anything.

So I'll be investigating the switching within the selector this Sunday after our drive to mt walker on Saturday of course
