Ben - might be worth looking for a switch which detects where the gear selector is... the key won't come out unless it is in park... (IIRC, you can't take it out in neutral - but might be worth testing).

SupporterHave never had to re-start the vehicle, just turn it on and off again and all is fine, can tell if it has not tripped, the key does not turn right back, if that makes sense ?

Check the solenoid on the shifter mechanism.
This will not let the key out unless it is in Park.
Again it could also be the entire shifter mech.
