    Humming window D4

Got a humming coming from the front lefthand side questing its the black window trim have had dramas with this before when I had the window replaced had them nearly fly off. Anyone else had this problem? have had genuine clips put back in them only just started doing it. What your thoughts people.

Mine did the same. Fixed by running a bead of liquid rubber along the edge of the trim strip where it sits on the glass. (I always carry a tube of windscreen sealant in the toolbag).

These strips will never completely fly off the car - the bonnet has to be opened so that you can remove them. If the clips let go, the trim strip will hang out to the side of the vehicle until you pull up and remove it.

Bloody noisy driving without one of them on - my left one let go half way between Perth & Kalgoorlie after a roadtrain went past in the opposite direction.
    Cheers .........

Yeah that sounds like mine did you run the sealant under the rubber seal or on top? What sort of sealant did you use?

I pulled the dress strip off and ran a bead of sealant along the edge of it and then pressed back onto the glass so that the sealant sticks to the glass. Clean the glass first with a bit of metho or similar.

Think that it's Selleys Window Sealant - it's in a small blue tube available from any of the auto accessories shops.

So is this right you take the trim right off seal underneath on the rubber seal reinstall and press down on the trim to make seal on window?

Worked for me. Just make sure that you don't break any of the clips when you take the trim strip off.

Another thing that I found - when I had my screen replaced, the glass mob broke some of the clips. They replaced these with after-market clips (probably sourced from Supercrap Auto which is right across the road from them). These clips did not hold the trim strip on the left side down properly, and it popped out on my way back down to Perth.

As soon as I got down here, I went to the dealer and bought a couple of sets of the genuine clips (they're yellow - the after-market ones were white) and fitted them. No more problems, and the trim strips both now sit down firmly as they should. I still have a spare set of genuine LR clips in the glovebox.
    Cheers .........
