Is the extended warranty worth it

Hi All,

Unfortunately I've just had to put my Allianz extended (NEW) warranty to the test. NEW is a higher cover than the ASSURED that LR offer through Allianz.

My D4 was due for a service but I reported suspension knocking and an oil leak.

I've had the oil pump, some suspension/steering parts replaced and some other bits and bobs.

I know the leaking oil has caused damage to other parts, including the timing belt but since I haven't got the car back or the report I'm not sure what was caused by what.

However, Allianz have covered everything bar the timing belt....which they claim is a wear and tear, consumable item (I believe).

I'm mainly very happy with the result but am going to pursue them for the belt too, as it did not need replacing until it got contaminated by the leaking oil pump. On reading the policy, this should be covered, so I'm taking it up with them next week.

You are correct it is a consumable item and would not be covered when it was time to replace it but if it is not time to replace it and is being replaced due to damage elesewhere - yes it should be covered - even if it is on a proportional basis ie if the belt is half worn/half way through its maintenance cycle then half the cost is reinbursed.

I don't get there wear and tear exclusions.....most things are wear and tear. Compressor failing during extended warranty...is wear and tear. Suspension parts are wear and tear.

I think everything should be covered from the time the money is paid.

I had an extended Holden warranty on a berlina wagon a few years back....first claim declined due to it being wear and tear. Sold the car a month later as I just knew anything from then was going to be declined due to wear and tear.

That's my exact though.

I don't have the service schedule as it's currently with my car, anybody know what the life of the belt is? I forgot to specifically ask LR but I asked them if the belt was due to be changed and they said no, only due to contamination.

I Googled but could only find UK schedules which may or may not be the same. 112K is what they are stating....and I guess that's miles. My car has only done 77K, so it should be a fair way off.

Anyway, I've fired up the broker who sold me the policy, so she's planning to give them curry next week as well. so here's hoping.

I do not know about the 3.0 but the 2.7 is 160,000km or 7 years whatever comes first.

Hi Kev, only just saw your query today. Just picked up a very nice full fat 2012 Vogue TDV8 Luxury L322, white with Active Suspension and two sets of wheels/tyres (22s and 20s).
Wow, what a great vehicle. At 58, it's more a ride comfort thing for me these days, and towing a 2.3 ton boat. It's like chalk and cheese compared with the RRS, which was my first LR. And for not a lot more than a new D4 HSE.
It's the very same car I lusted after at the new car showroom last year, but not at more than 190K. Thankfully, the chap who did buy it took a 70k bath on it in less than a year. But I guess he's pretty happy with the L405 V8 supercharged he bought a couple of months ago:)
I was more than happy to take the little-used L322 off his hands, it's only done 15,000km.

As the TD5 was 100K kms I recently acquired a new genuine belt ($60) for the 3.0 because its done over 115K and will be fitting the new belt when I get to fit my fused alternator cable.

I'm very jealous but don't think I'd do what I do in my D4 in a Vogue. But as you say, it would be a very, very comfortable machine.....rolling luxury. Great price too.

I'd sell the wife's Merc and buy a RR in a flash.....if I could get away with it....she hates them. Don't know what's wrong with her.....doesn't like the loaner XF Jag that I have right now either (which is a beautiful car). Must be a girl thing :wasntme:....too big.....

Damned if I know how to fix the avatar thingy. But Kev, isn't the FFRR the world's greatest off-roader? We'll be testing it next year, towing a camper trailer down the Gibb River Rd from Kununurra to Broome. Not for me the blinged up Urban Assault Vehicle:-)
My wife absolutely loves it...although we've only had it three days, so she hasn't actually driven it yet. But she loved driving the Sport.
As for extended warranty, I'll definitely be getting it for this one. The thought of expensive repairs makes me shudder. I was quoted about $3300 by Allianz the other day. (Who, by the way, also quoted me $2,300 for comprehensive insurance. I went to APIA, who sold it to me for $900. Worth shopping around.)
