Hi
What are the actual differences between the 2 diesel engines (now that the TDV6 is based on the same motor) ?
Are they different turbos or just a different ECU programming ?
Thanks
Mark.

Must be a difference in the intake or exhaust systems somewhere, as the aftermarket upgrades are also different
AUS SDV6 chips to 216Kw/650Nm
Diesel Tuning Chip for Land Rover Discovery (4) 3.0 SDV6 249PS / 183kW / 246bhp
AUS TDV6 chips to 184Kw/600Nm
Diesel Tuning Chip for Land Rover Discovery (4) 3.0 TDV6 211PS / 155kW / 208bhp

Most people producing performance upgraded ecus are only updating fuel maps because these are easy to find and alter. Within 5 minutes my son found all the maps in my 3.0's ecu s/w (IIRC there's around 150) using generic ecu analysis software but deciphering the code is an exceedingly time-consuming process even for experienced people. LR probably have different programming logic as well as different maps which would prevent map-only updates from achieving the same performance. Very few people are able to reverse engineer ecu code and even when they do they can only make very minor changes. eg BAS developed a patch for post 2007 TDV6 D3 to not use EGR during engine operation but the logic to test and operate the EGR valves at startup and shutdown has not been bypassed and therefore the EGR valves still need to work properly. LR would be expected to make it very difficult to bring a low output ecu up to high output and would be quite aware that people are producing updated maps for these engines.

Are you sure ?
This is what I found:
"Two variants of fuel injector are installed on the 3.0 TDV6 engine, 155kW vehicles have a unique low flow fuel injector installed. Injectors should not be swapped between 155kW and 188kW engines due to the injector nozzles being different. Low flow fuel injector nozzles are not capable of sufficient fuel supply to the 188kW engine

Yes, that's LR's official stance. IIRC it was Pete Bell but perhaps someone else who looked-up the injector part numbers for the 2 versions of the engine and found the injector part numbers to be identical.
