With incorrect logic, not the least bit helpful and tongue firmly in cheek, I'd be more focused on the 11.2kg person that can occupy said tent.... 😜
Hey everyone,
I have the standard (short) roof rails and Roof bars that were a Land Rover accessory for the D3. The ends of the Bars that fit into the rails look like plastic, the oval bars themselves are aluminium. The sticker on them says they they are rated to 71.2 kg.
My question is has anyone fitted a Roof Top Tent to the standard Roof bars and if so did they handle the load and strains of having such a big thing bolted to them while driving. By the way the roof top tents I am looking at are around 60 kg. In theory the standard bars should be ok but I'm not so sure, so that is why I'm asking.
Also I'm trying to be stingy and not buy a complete roof rack if I can help it.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Cheers,
Terry

But I have lost weight recently so all should be fine! ...
The roof rails / racks are rated for driving weight, not static weight even with a fat arse like me on it believe it or not.

Looks like the majority of roof racks are rated at 75kg or there abouts...
both Rhino and ProRack do 100kg ones.
Isn't this about static vs dynamic load? Afaik the roof is only rated to 75 kg but me, my wife and our daughter slept up there ok. We have the Kimberley roof tent which is small and light.
Don't panic - yes, 75 kg is dynamic load max. Note the post on 11.2 kg was "tongue in cheek"
Cheers,
Gordon
