hmm,
going after The Boxed Set are we?
I know there aren't many V8 petrol D4's out there but still there are a few so hopefully I'll get an informed answer from an actual owner.
Question 1. What is the average city fuel consumption for a V8 petrol D4?
Question 2. And what is the average country / highway fuel consumption?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Terry

Now that the V8 is to be dumped in favour of the inferior and less powerful supercharged V6, the D4 V8 looks to me to be a future classic - well to some folk anyway !
The theoretical combined economy is 1.1L/100km better than mine - in the real world I imagine it would be similar or slightly better than a D3 V8. Subject to finding the right balance between aural pleasure and time at the pump ... of course !
Would be interested to hear the answer from a D4 V8 owner. If nobody answers Terry, that means you best go buy one and report back ... for science ... !
From my conversation with Jeff on the D3/D4/RRS weekend, highway driving is pretty good, around the 14l/100, but city driving is pretty typical of a V8 at 20l/100 +
Offroad is where they eat fuel though

On the drive from Melbourne to Sydney it was around 11.5 l/100 sitting on 110-115. On my morning and afternoon commute in very heavy stop start traffic it is 17-20 l/100. In normal city traffic 14-17 l/100.
I didn't calculate with the camper (approx 1.5t) yet. I need to tow on a trip that isn't just over the mountains and back again.
In the bush it looked ugly, however you aren't usually doing hundreds of kms in low range.
You can drive mine anytime you are around Terry.
I like the way it produces power and although it doesn't have the low end grunt of the SDV6 it still rarely needs to exceed 3000 rpm. When you you go past 3K it pulls hard all the way to redline.

I forgot to add that although my work pays for fuel I'm still driving very conservatively and carefully (I want work to keep paying). I have the feeling that if I was to use the throttle with less consideration things could get a lot worse.
It is so quiet inside you don't really hear the motor until it hits 4k rpm. Looking at the huge mufflers it would be easy to open things up, however I like to keep things quiet and not get noticed.
