    Battery rooted

    Hi all,

Was putting the winch in the bar on my rrs and was poking around the battery (just with my finger) and was moving the negative cable to see where I could hook the winch up and the stud snapped off the battery....
Appeared to have a fair amount of corrosion on it.

So now I need a new battery....
If I could wait till mid next week I'd pick up a CAT battery, purely as they look to be a good deal.
I rang up nrma and they have a 1000cca bat with 2 yr warranty for $270 or $240, can't remember...
Anyway will call battery world and see what they can do.

Any other recommendations? Especially considering its Sunday tomorrow!

    Cheers

Hi Boofla and while I can't help you with the battery, you don’t need to go all the way back to the cranking battery’s earth stud.

If you have a look just in front of the cranking battery compartment, in the guard wall, you will see two 6M earth studs.

    See the photo below.

Either one is fine to use as an earth for a dual battery set up but for a winch, use both.

I have a small 2.5mm stainless steel plate made up, that goes over both 6M studs and has an 8M hole in it to take the winch cable.

Hell of a lot easier than going all the way back to the cranking battery earth stud.

    Thanks mate,

I've actually got 3 of those factory earths.
Running a xd9000, warn say to have + on battery, - on engine block earth plus there is a smaller earth cable.
Just wasn't sure I'd those earth points would suffice for the - cable.

I'll get battery in, wire up and re spool winch cable and see what happens!

    Cheers

Re the battery, it's worth getting a price from a dealer. They were the best option when I needed a new battery 12 months ago.
