Rattle and movement in LHS of Steering Rack

Has anyone experienced a rattle and some play in the front steering rack where the rubber boot is on a D3. Any suggestions please before I have to pull it out to investigate. Thanks from HUTCHBB

There is a ball joint under the rubber of most if not all steering racks to allow for up and down suspension movement.

The steering rod complete with ball joint usually screw into the end of the rack and are usually sold as an assembly.

So its almost certain to be a worn ball joint and fixed by replacing the steering rod. This affects alignment so if you DIY you have to have an alignment.

Many Thanks PhillipA, I will investigate further and it sounds like that will be the answer to the problem.
