rear link arm bolt snapped

Only that the outer end of the centre of the bush now has some room to move if the bolt isn't properly tight.

I think that the shorter thread length has nothing to do with the later bolt being more suited to the task (if it is) as the bolt has broken at the pivot point from being flexed too many times. Either the bolt is flexing because the bush hasn't been clamped tightly enough or the bolt is undersized for the lateral forces (it is a single-ended mount rather than double-ended) or there is binding in the arm/wishbone/bush/washer at extreme suspension angles and the binding is causing the bolt to flex, being the easiest component to bend when something has to give.

Same happened to me 3 January 14 while driving on a conventional graded gravel road just outside of Lismore NSW traveling around 60-70 Km/h and felt rear end go very loose.

Fantastic service from Landover roadside assist (Alliance) and the local dealer Bruce Lynton Landover South Port couldn’t have been more helpful.
Service from Landover Corporate not so great initially claiming "impact damage" so no warranty but no response to request for evidence to support their position.
Position then changed that would be covered under warranty as a special case but appeared to be more to do with Landover global parts ordering being shut down over Xmas/New year as they were replacing their global parts system and resulting significant delay in parts procurement. Never got a clear answer either way.
Emails to Landover Corporate don't get a response despite automated system saying that emails will be responded to in 2 business days - my last email dated 13 Jan still not responded to - guess my questions don’t deserve an answer in their view. Telephone interactions compare unfavourably against other organisations. I guess I’m not telling anyone anything new.

hm wondering what bolt design yours where? Did they replace both bolts?

Bit of a worry at how low the Km's are on some of the broken bolts.
If it was higher Km's when this happened you would just change them out every 150,000 or so, but this may not help in this case.

Dont know the answer regarding bolt design I'm afraid:
I didnt realise the significance until a few days after the failure when I read this thread and I was back in Sydney and vehicle still with dealer at Gold Coast.
The dealers job sheet is rather high level and doesn't specify the parts used so I have asked the dealer to see if they can clarify at a parts level of detail

Wonder if a replacement high tensile replacement bolt could be manufactured to replace the originals before they fail?

How many kms has your vehicle done and has it recently had a wheel alignment that included that wheel?

They are already high tensile and any higher would increase the likelihood of them snapping.

Edit: The current part number is RYG501580.

I just purchased a couple of the RYG501580 bolts from my LR dealer; the cost was $CDN 11.87 each plus taxes.

It looks like the latest part number for this bolt is now the 3rd design. Previous versions were RYG500070 and RYG500073. As David's D4 was a 2011 model, looks like a lot of us will be buying some replacement bolts soon. :mad:
