The stalk also allows you to go into settings and then to navigate within settings you need steering wheel controls. Not an issue if you are happy with your current settings.
If in doubt - read the handbook :D

Andrew- there are no kits available - you need to get the following:
1) a fascia like this one: FP8090 : LANDROVER FACIA :: New Products
2) single DIN stereo (and use pocket supplied), or double DIN DVD/GPS
3) a harness adapter like this one: CT10LR01 : T HARNESS LAND ROVER :: New Products
4) an antenna adapter like this one: AP349 : ANTENNA ADAPTOR PLUG EUROPEAN FEMALE ISO TO MALE DIN 4 CM LENGTH :: New Products
The harness adapter will just send output from the new head unit to the factory speakers. As you say, they advertise peak power of 50W - in reality it is only about 12W RMS - not enough!
If you want to use your own amp, you'll need to run the aux cables to a suitable spot (like under drivers seat) and then run cables back to harness adapter and splice into it. If you're going to the trouble of installing an amp, you really need to think about replacing the factory speakers - and run new cables from amp directly to speakers.
When I upgraded the stereo in my D3, I had to get the above from the UK. Aepro are available in Australia so no worries about freight.
Cheers,
Rob
Thanks Rob
Good bit of info, now what to do next, was thinking about upgrading the D3 sometime soon, next 6 months maybe.
To maintain the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket headunit that is compatible use CHLR3A : CONTROL HARNESS A FOR LANDROVER :: New Products
You will need the plug to suit your brand of head unit to this bit.
To maintain stereo controls on steering wheel on a base-model stereo model, you first need to install the stereo controls on the steering wheel. Then you can use the model mentioned above or what I used: Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future
Garry, I've seen a few RRS that have not had Harman/kardon badges on speaker grilles - instead they have a black badge that says "SPORT" - the audio quality in these was nowhere near as punchy as the 9 speaker HK unit that's in my Sport, and mine isn't the Logic7.
I've also seen the order sheet for another RRS with the 9 speaker setup as an ordered option.
They were all 05MY vehicles. Perhaps the HK unit became standard at some later point.
