    I've joined the Brotherhood :-)

Last wed I sold my Gu Patrol and today I signed up a Disco 3 se v8. I had Ritters do a pre purchase inspecton and they gave it the over all thumbs up with a few minor issues and a couple of major items that will require attention down the track (Auto service and slow air bag compressor) but in general im happy with what I have purchased and esp the price
I plan on using the car for weekend medium 4wding and towing the camper
So what do I need to know about my new purchase?
on my shopping list will be
    Tow Bar
    All terrain tyres
Duel Batteries with an Anderson plug for the camper
    Bull bar (no hurry)
    Snorkel
    some sort of suspension mod
What else should be on my list?

Had my V8 SE for a few months now and loving it.

Only thing I've done over repairs that were required when I bought it was to update the gearbox software. If yours clunks whilst pulling away from a junction whilst still rolling slowly then the update will fix that.

Other than that, just read the manual - the feature that I thought was a faulty seatbelt on the 2nd row is actually there to hold kids seats in place! Reading the manual saved an uneccesary teardown!

    Enjoy

Just prepare yourself for a permagrin
Just drive it around and use it away and you will know what you will want/need as far as extras go.

    Welcome!

Just in case you haven't read it, the FAQ is very helpful indeed for lots of things.
There is also the disco3.co.uk website which is a fantastic resource.
The "Google Search - Search AULRO.com ONLY!" on the bottom left of every page on this forum works a lot better than the inbuilt forum search function (top right).
Finally, genuine parts are often cheaper from the UK than locally.

Hope this helps you to get the most out of your new acquisition.

    gossamer,

Welcome to the Brotherhood/Sisterhood of the permagrin !

    Couple of comments based on your list;

    1. Tow bar: You simply need to locate a tongue assembly which slots in to the built in receiver under the plastic cover in the middle of the rear bumper. This is also where you will find the rear recovery point. Some choose to fit a Mitch Hitch but the standard assembly is generally fine for most towing.

    2. Suspension Mods: Check out either the GOE rods, the cheapest lift you will ever get or Llams which is a more complex but equally effective method to give you a wide range or suspension options. I am assuming, as it is an SE that your vehicle has the air suspension, I think only the early S models came with coils.

As Eddomak noted check out the FAQ sticky or do a search on the forum as all these topics are regularly discussed, particularly AT tyres. !!

    Regards,

    George

thanks discoweb, yes its a SE ive already sent off an email in regards to the GOE rods and ive already ordered a replacement compressor. I don't get the car until fri and I have a trip planned to MT Dissa (im a Pajero club member) for the following sat so im madly trying to get things organised. I hit up the tyre dealer about getting better, bigger tyres if it needs tyres for a rwc but if I get the size I wanted then it wont be roadworthy so I may get new tyres but not the size I want, at least I may be able to get something decent just smaller than I wanted. I will be looking for a mitch hitch as I have an off rd camper that sits quite high. I did an online insurance quote and the average market value puts it at 10k more than I payed for it
id really like 17" rims though :-(

I am assuming you are running 18 in rims, if that is correct then there are a growing list of reasonable AT rubber in 18in. 17in give you better choice but most would suggest that with a bit of care you can go most places on the 18s. Also not sure the V8 will take 17 in rims anyway ?

You will be pretty surprised at how far these will go in stock form, the GOE rods will give you a bit of extra height when need but again the D3 isvery very capable without them.

As far as AT rubber goes I recently put a set of the Bridgestone D697 LT on my D3 and they have been very good, not cheap however.

A few on the forum are running bigger tyres so they maybe able to give you some advice.

    George.

Current tyres didn't pass the rwc so i'm getting 5 new 285 cooper ltz's fitted for $1000 (im paying the extra above what the dealer would have payed for cheap tyres)
