discovery 3 2007 "park brake off lift switch to apply"

    Hello,

    I have a discovery 3 SE 2007

If driving on road I get this message "park brake off liftswitch to apply" and the "p" park brake red light is blinking, lifting park brake switch for 0.1sec cause the alert to stop but after 20-40minutes it appears again….

If driving offroad it happens all the time I can clear the message butit will appear again after 1 minute

Anyone know what can cause such a annoying problem?

    Many thanks

    Ori

The park switch OFF circuit must be being activated which is probably due to a faulty switch because the message doesn't re-occur for a while after you pull it on briefly.

    park brake faults

The park brake light flashes whenever I hit the dirt?

I have the park brake locking on problem.
The noise of it locking on every 5th time I put the break on is scary!
I have a permanent attachment to the manual hand braj]ke release.

I would like advice as I am basically ignoring the problem at present as I have not got the time to get it serviced and I am sure the answer will be a new unit?

    Hi Graeme (or anyone),

Have Been searching and seems as though a few have this problem but there are varying suggested causes and solutions.

I had my 05 off road for the first time today and had the same issues. Hit the dirt and same notice with flashing symbol on dash. Cleared it and spent 2 hours on the beach with out a problem and then same thing on dirt access track on the way out.

Can you help with location of switch that might be faulty?

PS: I bought and fitted the LLAMS kit from LD D4 a few weeks back. Easy to fit and works a treat. Great product. Thanks for the message about the revised location of the cable tie.

I wondered if the EPB switch itself is faulty, perhaps vibrating due to rough terrain.

I hope you find the Llams facility useful.

My D3 does it occasionally, usually on corrugated roads. I suspect that it is the park brake shoes out of adjustment. Try adjusting the shoes ad see if it makes it better. The next suspect would probably be the park brake actuator. I had one of those replaced under warranty for a similar problem.

    Thanks Graeme and Tote.

I'll have a look at those things. Whilst it's an easy fix on the run it's a bit annoying so I'm keen to resolve it.

I have had the same problem. Mine was associated with the spine curdling whine of the hand brake (Being electric ) locking on and needing the hand brake release, near the gear lever at times. This is associated with crap in the mandrake mechanism.
It is a bit like some D2 faults e.g. hazard lights coming on, after a large bounce I suspect as mine would come on after rough corrugations.

    EPB fault

After recently doing a wheel rotation, when SHMBO used the D3 just after doing it, she reported the Park brake not working. ie amber light light on.
Thinking about the possible cause, (park brake had been adjusted by my mechanic recently) the difficulty in undoing the rear wheel nuts was a possible reason. I could not loosen them using a breaker bar with an extention (2' long).
Ended up using a vg battery rattle gun, and it took some time. Well all this banging and rattling around most likely disturbed things, so decided to adjust parking brakes. However little or no adjustment needed. But I did give the drums a good blow out with air and a lot of dust etc came out. Problem solved. My thinking about the problem of the fault light flashing after travelling on corrugated roads is that the rattling around causes dust and crapt that has built up is dislodged and cause the fault light to activate. The solution in the first instance may be as simple as removing the wheels and blowing out the drums.
