On a trip to Sth Aust we were getting faults and going into limp mode, so a quick visit to Lincoln Land Rover to see what the issue was, after a quick drive he decided that he would re-flash the ECU, do the latest software updates and put in the latest 3.0l gearbox updates, now we consistently get around 11 to12l/100k too and from work and 13 to 15l/100k towing.

All good now, I wish all dealers were like Lincoln Land Rover, nothing was a problem, a real nice bloke to boot and looking at all the old series Landys and Rangies I would say an enthusiast as well.

How many k's did yours have on it went to Lincoln LR.

Just thinking the k's may have something to do with it as well?

BTW - Gas Manager is a pretty good app to help track fuel consumption and is available for both Android and iOS – Free

Almost 50,000ks, has been a fuel gussler from day one, yes the accessories do have a bit to do with it, I knew this, but when your getting the economy of someone towing a big van when your not towing, I think even the dumbest person would know there is something wrong, thankfully we found a Land Rover Dealer where they actually knew what they were doing.

Thanks for that. Have just downloaded - looks better and easier than my spreadsheet.

I agree with comments that economy of the D4 improves with age, at least up to about 50,000km. I used to get 11/12 litres per 100km around Perth, but now consistently averaging around 10 and sometimes even lower.

The recent run across to Tassie and back seems to have made a bit of a difference - economy now looks to be better both in the city and also on long highway runs (and that was with all seats down, a fair load in the back and a decent load on a full length roofrack while travelling as well.

I used to think that the D4 was not as economical as my Td5 D2 - but that has now changed. Very happy with the economy that I'm getting now, especially when you consider the size and weight of the vehicle.

Was in Lincoln on the way home a couple of weeks ago Baz and saw the LR dealer there - didn't have any need to drop in though. We stayed one night in Lincoln, followed by another four at Coffin Bay. Was actually surprised to see LR dealerships in country towns over in SA (saw one in Kingston SE as well) - it's not something that we have over here in the West (other than Albany). The rest of the country dealerships closed down years ago.
    Cheers .........

Road Trip is another good one.

When threads like this come up I always put a plug in for www.fuelly.com which is an online fuel consumption data managing site but it is public so you can compare to similar vehicles. (no association I just like to see what others are getting in fuel consumption) It's sort of like Facebook for fuel economy anoraks.

As said, mine was also a fuel guzzler until about 24k,in fact it was way worse than the D2a.
i still can't believe the change,in fact it is very noticeable how much further it goes with every tank full.
It has just a bar, cargo barrier, traxide dual battery kit,and two roof rails. In fact on the scales it is exactly 2.7T with driver and 3/4 of a tank of fuel.

I still don't think it needs this sort of mileage to 'run in',but i am no mechanic.

I have been questioning whether my fuel usage is ok or not, but hearing others I am concerned.

    3.0l 80% city, 20% FWY
Getting 550k’s out of a tank
80% hwy getting 620k out of a tank.

    Car has done 13,575klms.

When I am filling the tank most I have put in is 68litres, normally 64-64 litres.

Tracking via Fuel manager has me at 13.0L per 100 car says 11-11.5l per 100

    Getting 7.7Klm’s per litre.

Should I be looking into this? Cannot trust the dash readout. When on freeway I can get the consumption down to 8.0l per 100 which is more like 9.5 in real terms. City seems to be 11-12 on the dash readout so about 13.5.

    Thanks

Sounds pretty much the same as mine (13MY SDV6 @ 27000km).

All my fuel calcs tell me this is more economical than my D3 was, but I don't seem to get as far between fills in the D4.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Your fuel consumption sounds pretty good. With my short trips to and from work (probably 3km each way), in heavy traffic, i get around 15l/100lm especially with Christmas shoppers around Chatswood.

If I happen to do a longer trip on the weekend, it almost immediately drops down to 12l/100km.

Haven't had time to do a really long trip yet; the Lithgow weekend was around 11l/100km.

FWIW, this is with a corrected readout, after calibrating to Road Trip over 6 tanks full.

So far with the fuel tracked since new (53000) I have an average of 11.10l/100. I have got down to 9.0 but it has been exceptional.
Have just come back from Adelaide and have been sitting at the top range of nearly legal speeds and have got high 10s and low 11s. I am not driving for economy and are quite pleased with the overall economy as with a 3.0l Patrol previously and an average of 13/100 the D4 with the exceptional comfort, power and sheer driveability comes out on top every time.
