Search is your friend, the mechanism in the lower tailgate will be broken. Levering the trim off enough to manually release the upper tailgate is the go.

It makes a slight sliding sound but not enough to open.
What do I do?

Presume you mean the trim on the top but cant seem to move it without force while the gate is closed.
Don't want to break it.

						Thanks rb.
That is a different mechanism to the UKLR one, but at least I can see it. However, all the poking under the sun will not open anything. I can hear and feel the cable attachment sliding but nothing else happens.
Oh. And just in case you think I'm not trying, I've working on this for 4 hours and am about to explode. I have skin off my hands everywhere, and the shine is off my usually even temper.
I have an epoxy surfboard about to mould itself to the contours of the inside of the vehicle in the heat.

						Hello Beerdead
Time for a cold one my friend.
Mine failed just last week after arriving at our accommodation in our hols with a trunk load of suitcases. Was not happy to prise it all out the passenger doors.
I think you have some links to you tube above. Getting the carpet out of the bottom tail gate is supposed to be the hard bit so you seem to have cracked that bit. I decided against having a crack myself as I did not want to rip the trim. Stealer wanted 3 hrs labour plus the part. I went to my local indie and part with one hr labour 190 all up. The part was 88. Real common issue apparently. Yes..... Another one!!!
Just an option rather than getting real stress.

						Had a break.
Not used to seemingly simple jobs get the best of me.
This is the third in a row.
Cracked two sheets of glass installing them, then done a **** job on the third trying to be careful. Couldn't get the nut off an alternator using all the resources available to 3 chippies.
And now this.
Not to mention had a part delivered without the bolts and nuts which were then in turn not delivered by TNT because I wasn't home. That was followed by a surfboard blank not being delivered in time to make a new one.
And I go on hols next week!
Feel like a beer!
