Hi, I've just gone thru the same process and ended up with Pirelli Scorpion ATR 112. Even though there is a guide on the GOE website, some tyres are no longer available and others don't meet the weight requirement. Good luck
I managed to dent both doors on my wife's side of the car. We were going through a narrow cutting on a 4WD adventure. Left wheels fell into a hole and car leaned into the "wall".
Now this was sufficient justification to order rocksliders with the side bars. And at the same time I have been allowed to order six 18 inch rims.
I want some offroad tyres with some toughness in the sidewalls. A lot of my 4WD play is on rocky tracks (Flinders, Bendleby, Adelaide Hills etc.). My OEM Wranglers weren't up to it and neither are my LTZ Zeon Coopers. The side walls get chunks bitten out of them. (I know, better wheel placement....)
Who has tried the 18in BFG or the Bridgestone D697 LT? Or is there something else on the horizon?
Wheels arrive in Feb so there is no rush. I will keep the 19 inch wheels for the daily rides so it's off road toughness I'm seeking.
The car is a D4 HSE MY12

@Ozetim. Are you happy with the Pirrellis? Are they standing up to the rigors of the rough stuff?
Pirelli Scorpion are excellent on tarmac, sand and rocks but will not perform on mud to your expectations......
I've just returned from a trip that went from Whyalla, Iron Knob, Mt Ive, via the Skull Tanks to Kingoonya, on to Tarcoola and following the railway through to Maralinga Test site, Len Beadells Tree, Emu Junction, Anne Beadell highway, Coober Pedy and then back home.
About 2500km with less than 500 on sealed stuff.
The D697s performed faultlessly throughout it all.
Traction was flawless and no chipping or damage was had by the tyres.
Same cannot be said for the others in the group running GY and BFG with several punctures and a 2" split in ine tyre.
Would I recommend them? Absolutely! These tyres have now done over 30,000km of outback driving without issue.
Gibber rock, sand, dirt, shale all handled with ease.
Fantastic in sealed surfaces and quiet enough to not be intrusive.

Thanks for the update Tombie.
I have 6 of Gordon's 18" waiting for D697's which I selected because they are LT construction and seem to get a good review from users. I am sure the other tyres are good but I need reliable remote travel tyres. Your trip sounded great.
Cheers
Bob
