Thread: Akebono Brake pads- Anyone tried them?

I have them on the front of mine.
Have only done about 3000km but so far seem very good, do seem better after you use them once or twice but still O.K. cold.
have not changed the back yet and the difference in brake dust is unreal.
Front rims clean and rear ones black betwwen washes.
Will fit rear ones in the new year.

I put Akebono Ultra Premium ceramic pads and solid discs on my petrol V8 LR3 at 147,000 km.

I now have about 178,000 km and no sign of any appreciable wear, and better yet, no black dust. My prior set at about 75,000 km was Land Rover original parts and hence black dust which I got tired of.

Note that the parts numbers are for a petrol V8 LR3, not a diesel engined D3. EUR1098 for the fronts and EUR1099 for the rear pads.

The pedal feel is a bit different, (seems less grabby/softer). As such I tend to think that maybe installing all four corners at the same time may be a consideration.

I regarded the stock solid, not dimpled, slotted or holed rotor style as the least worst of the available alternatives. I do not use my 3 as a race truck but is my every day transport, and yes, a grocery getter.

I note that todays temperature is about -30C and there is a couple of feet of snow around so just getting the groceries can near be an expedition at times.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely give them a look when the next brake pad change is due. No more black dust is a definite plus.

+40C here today and forecast for the next 4 days too so no need for winter tyres ATM.

For whatever reason, broadcast on CBC radio this morning was your +40C temperatures. My wife commented on this because of our near -40C temperature early this morning. The weekend is supposed to be a balmy -20C so we are looking forward to the warm up. While not tropical, it is supposed to be sunny as well.

One thing about snow and cold: no bugs, crawlies, or even germs. You are either healthy or frozen.

Changed over to Pedders Discs and Akebono pads. They feel fine and the absolute lack of black dust is incredible.

Not as grabby as the stock pads for sure. I suspect they need a bit of heat in them before working well.

The Pedders stock discs however appear to be more rusty looking very quickly than the previous stock discs. I am regretting this decision potentially.

You got my interest up but it appears they only do rear pads for the 3.0 diesel!

Have had them on all four wheels of mine for more than two years now. Had four new genuine Land Rover discs fitted at the same time. So far, virtually no sign of wear on the discs and less than 10% wear on the pads. No black dust, and no issue with braking. If and when I do ever have to replace them, it will be with another set of Akebono's.
