I would like to see how they will fill the bonnet with LR4 in the US...:D
Cheers
PS. i think its a bad move to lose the LR on the bonnet. LR is the essence of what makes the Disco a great vehicle. Land Rover is synonymous with adventure and safari etc - Discovery does not have the same connotation. Anyway the LR gurus must have done their research, so who am I to second guess it.
I am not so impressed with the idea of getting rid of the Land Rover letters on the bonnet. The attached suggests the idea is Ford's, and not very imaginative on the part of Land Rover. The white Flex is a 2011 model and the other, 2014.
The Flex is a nice vehicle on a Taurus chassis; the interior of the early models were exact duplicates of the 2005 - 2008 D3's/LR3.
My feeling is that the Range Rover letters seem to be going on every bonnet in the dealership over here. If there is a plan, (and I doubt it), I am wondering if the Land Rover lettering is going to first disappear and then later show up on a truly new very expensive luxobarge, Maybach style.
Don't forget there will also be a Jaguar version of probably the Range Rover. Makes economic sense for JLR to do so, with tweaks for each market segment.
Perhaps the MY14 is a test for some styling cues that will appear perhaps in D5 in just over 18 months.
Hi All,
I finally got around to test driving the MY14 Disco 4 this morning, but only the TDV6.
My quick thoughts (in comparison to my MY10 3.0 SE - ie the higher power and torque engine)...
- That 8 speed ZF gearbox is fantabulous and amazeballs. I had heard so much about it in every car it has been put into, but until I drove something with it I hadn't experienced such an amazing transmission. Super smooth gearchanges, fast response time to the paddles, can't feel any clunks whatsover as speed is perfectly matched to the revs. I tried doing the same speed and shifting between 3 gears up and down and the only thing is the changed revs and engine tone. Same thing with putting it under load and shifting up and down and around corners and roundabouts - super smooth.
- Associated with the 8 speed is that the around-town acceleration is improved has more get up and go than my 3.0, but on the freeway you can feel less torque when cruising at 100km/hr and then gassing it to overtake - it doesn't have as much shove in either "D" or "S" mode. Changing gears is the solution.
- At the time I forgot to check out the stop/start, but then realised that only the upspec SDV6 has it, so can't comment.
- It seems to corner a little flatter than mine with less body roll - perhaps some suspension tuning over the years?
- the driveaway price of the TDV6 optioned up to 7 seats with leather, power mirrors (ie the same as an SDV6 minus electric seats) is around $11K less, which is seriously tempting if it is an around town vehicle with no regular towing. BUT once you've had more power, can you ever turn back?
Anyway, I guess the MY13 people have known this all year round, but still it was a bit of a revelation for me...
Now, let's wait for the SDV6 demonstrator to arrive...
Hi All, Hope everyone has been good!
Eventually all Models will have their family name across the bonnet.
IE: RANGEROVER(Premium), DISCOVERY(AllRounder-cant remember the exact name) & DEFENDER(Adventurous). Starting this MY.
This is to fall in line with all models & a vast change/deletion etc of models.
This new 3 tier model line up with all the inclinations will interesting.
Cant say too much, but in the press in the UK they are now releasing more & more info.(Hint go to all the UK publications & have a read) But has been in JLR's pipeline for a long while.
Take care all.:p
