    Playing music thru AUX jack in D3 HSE

    I am just back into Land Rovers after a 15 year absence. Our recently purchased 2007 HSE D3 is a little advanced on our much loved Range Rover of 15 years ago but it clearly has the same wonderful DNA.

    Love the D3 but I cannot get my HTC phone to play music thru the AUX jack. I have connected up the phone to the AUX jack in the back of the centre console via a double ended cable and switched the stereo to AUX but nothing. Tried an ipod as well but no go. I think I am following the handbook correctly.

    Can you lucky long term D3 owners tell me what I am doing wrong please.

    It should just work - plug it in, select aux on the head unit, play from the device. The level of most devices is quite low so pump up the volume if you didn't - alternatively, is the cable known to be good and a proper 3.5mm male to male stereo cable ?

    You can get a headphone/speaker boost app for android/iOS.
    Make sure the output on the device is set and working, just plug in some ear buds/headphones.

    Thanks for the responses. I tested the cable I have today by connecting the phone up to a mini stereo system in the house and it worked fine. I also removed the jack point at the back of the console to check the wiring was connected (it was). Looks like I have a more serious problem somewhere in the stereo system.

    Hi Brumby, did you check as mentioned above that the car unit is set for Auxiliary input?

    Yes I have had the aux button pressed on the head unit -I presume this is what you are referring to?

    Brumby - IIRC, the aux input runs from the 3.5mm socket at the back of the centre console, down to the passenger side footwell, then up to the back of the head unit. If I were to pick a weak link in the chain - it would be the socket itself - unless someone has already tinkered with the aux input before you owned it. You'll need to trace back the red/blue/black cables from the socket.

    Why not mount a new AUX plug on dash - saves wires all over the place. This is how I did mine.. But there are loads of options on the site.

    or ditch the old head unit all together and replace it with something that has bluetooth hands free...maybe blue tooth streaming and stash an old phone/mp3 player of choice in the centre cubby.

    then you get remote control of the unit direct from the head unit...know its more expensive than $5 spend at Jaycar
