    4 Years with the D4

The 4 year mark passed in mid January so I thought I might bore you all with some reflection of those 4 years.

    The purchase:

I went into a local Brisbane dealer to have a look at a D4 at the time I was investigating options to replace the Ford Territory at the time I was waiting for the Diesel Territory but I gave up because Ford were to slow to market. Given that the requirements changed.

    Real 4WD
    Diesel
    3500kg Towing
    Not A Toyota.

My first attempt to buy a D4 didn't end well... I did turn up looking like a grub in paint splattered clothing, a sales driod approached and I asked if I could test drive a D4... He went and got some keys took licence details and pointed to the car park where I could find the D4. It was a quick test drive and I was sold on it and the wife was sold on it so back to the dealer to do a deal. The sales droid approached put hand out asked for the keys and turned around and walked away!!!!! WTF

Ok so we walked away and left it go for a couple of weeks. I went online and found a car that looked interesting so I sent of an inquiry online... It was the same dealer!!! Ok into the grub clothing again. This time we met a salesman who actually wanted to sell a car.

    Deal Done:

The D4 comes home WOW what a car... We use it to tow our first van a 21" Coromal and we find the first limitation fuel range with a van attached. The standard tow hitch is also not real flash its limitations didn't really show until I attached a much heavier van.

    The Fix:

    Kaymar Rear Bar
    Long Range fuel tank
    Rapid Hitch
    McHitch

I also got into the first Group buy for the 18 inch wheels it was a long process but in the end well worth the wait.

Over the 4 years the D4 had some warranty issues, it was always fixed without arguments or problems. The dealer did damage it twice but fixed it without any issues.

The D4 works hard for us towing a big van (3500kg) and does it very well most of its 65000klm has been with a van on the back.

4 Years on whenever I drive it with or without a van attached I still think WOW what a car...

    D4 ownership

Thanks for posting your experience. It's always good to read a first hand view of vehicle ownership, especially if the vehicles been USED!
The wife & I seriiously considered & test drove the D4 but I was a little spooked by service & long term ownership.
Fabulous vehicle thou so thanks again for your thoughts.
Now will it be a D4 or RR Sport for the next Landy
    Regards Chris

    Although wouldn't mind a new 8speed

Hard to put in words exactly why they are a fantastic vehicle, only those that have one would understand.

I have to agree, just over 3 years and 113k km and I couldn't be happier.
    Cheers,

    Talking Happy camper

Had a 2009 D3 last of the model for 4 years and 75k and loved it!. Did all the mods and used it for all our holidays incl. the cape, never missed a beat. Traded it on a 2013 TDV6 optioned and did the same, thrown on all the bling and done a few off road trips already upto about 10k to date. Brilliant to drive on road and awesome off road. Extra power in the 3.0l makes a difference and i didn't go to the 183kw, don't need it. Driven plenty Cruisers and Patrols both work and play and nothing comes close to the Disco. Reliability for both my cars has been 100% and the only non std thing i do is get the dealer to change the oil more often then the manual requires along with the fuel filters. Will be fitting a water trap filter to this car for diesel picked up in remote areas as a precaution . Get'em off road, let out a bit of air and go for it!
