Landed in Melbourne, went to the dealer, picked up the car, and drove home to Adelaide. A pleasant 11 hour drive in the new D4. :D
Drive it like it is stolen, and give her some gentle lovin, and all will be good. ;)

I have also just purchased a new Discovery, and whilst reading the manual noticed it stated that you can have your dealers activate the electronic folding mirrors? Also have you guys had any luck with lowering / raising the height with the keyfob, or are both of these things paid optional extras from the factory that?
Ps we should start a 2014 Discovery thread.

If it's not activated then the dealer will do it for a price, that's assuming they know how.
Check to see if you have up and down windows using the Key Fob, we asked a certain dealer could they activate our, they oh no that's a safety issue, we said but it's active in the HSE, they refused:mad: they finally admitted they had know idea:eek:
We got it done by another dealer:D

Hi,
I have a 5 seater TDV6.
The dealer showed me the raise and lower on my car with the key fob and it works. I must admit I have not tried it myself yet. Will do today if I get a chance.
It is described on page 97 of the hand book. I believe you have to have the doors closed.
re folding mirrors. This is an option on the TDV6 which I did not get. I wish I had as sometimes it is good to be able to do this while in the car. I am reluctant to try the manual approach given my likely hood of breaking something as they do not fold in normally but at an angle.
The hand book contains lost of stuff about features you don't have in the tDV6. I wish they identified them as it is a pain as you are not sure it is because it doesn't work or you are doing something wrong or it just isn't there.
There is an option where you can press buttons (page 6) called Global Opening. When I do this all the windows open but not the car?
Have you read the bit about checking oil levels on page 200. It goes through doing it via a display on the instrument panel - no need to use the dip stick. Then later it mentions topping up and checking if you have enough oil in. You use the display for the SDV6 but are supposed to use the dip stick for TDV6 - I think :).
I suspect we do not have the instrument display on the TDV6 (will verify today).
That is the trouble doing it at night - I don't want to spend the night in the car playing with the options (well I do really but don't want to look to stupid).
Have fun,
Richard
ps a MY14 thread would be good for now as people find out what they have and do not have.
PPS here are some of the options I don't believe the TDV6 does not have - (not a complete list)
Keyless opening/locking (this is where you do not have to press the button)

Why drive it like you stole it? ie why run it a bit hard? I don't have any previous experience with a diesel. Does it loosen things up a bit? I've done around 3k in the disco, a mix of city and highway, with a bit of cruise thrown. One thing I haven't done yet is flop it in low range. Guess I should do that soon...
Previous comment about running in brakes/tyres makes absolutely no sense to me. They're either going to work or they won't. :)
Working any engine beds the rings, bearings etc in properly.
As for brakes, pads and mating surfaces are raw from the manufacturing and bedding them
in prevents them ripping at each other causing unnecessary wear.
MY14 thread is up guys, not sure how to link it, but it's located under the Discovery section, or in recent feeds. Looking forward to seeing some posts.

Working your motor harder than normal and thrashing (driving like you stole it) are two different things.
Thrashing any new engine is a recipe for disaster, and will not help future fuel economy and longevity.
You don't want to baby it, but you also don't want to destroy it.
Brett....
If you want to understand a bit more about what bedding in of the brakes means how to do it, check out the video here. It explains it very well:
