Running in time of a new D4

The engines are already run in before installation in the vehicle in the build process - when the vehicle is completed each one is flogged around the test track undergoing some standard tests.

Nevertheless the engine is still new and in my view should just be driven "normally" with no extremes of load and light running. Not sure what the issue is with not using cruise control - the gearbox and engine will respond to load requirements with engine revs and gearbox changes accordingly. The cruise is not like the old versions of a few years back where the engine will hang on labouring away because either the gearbox has not changed down or the driver has not changed down his manual gearbox.

I mentioned the cruise purely to avoid running at the same speed for long periods.

My wife got a new subaru last year and they told her that so thought why not.

However Subaru also require you to have that free early service which LR don't which implies to me what you say above is more correct.

I only started this thread because while reeding the handbook I came across a section on running in the car. The sales guy said I did not have to and so I was confused and wanted some verification.

The hand book appears to be for all LR vehicles I think.

Any way I reckon I may just enjoy driving the car instead of worrying about things for awhile.

re folding mirrors. This is an option on the TDV6 which I did not get. I wish I had as sometimes it is good to be able to do this while in the car. I am reluctant to try the manual approach given my likely hood of breaking something as they do not fold in normally but at an angle.

The hand book contains lost of stuff about features you don't have in the tDV6. I wish they identified them as it is a pain as you are not sure it is because it doesn't work or you are doing something wrong or it just isn't there.

There is an option where you can press buttons (page 6) called Global Opening. When I do this all the windows open but not the car?

Have you read the bit about checking oil levels on page 200. It goes through doing it via a display on the instrument panel - no need to use the dip stick. Then later it mentions topping up and checking if you have enough oil in. You use the display for the SDV6 but are supposed to use the dip stick for TDV6 - I think :).
I suspect we do not have the instrument display on the TDV6 (will verify today).

That is the trouble doing it at night - I don't want to spend the night in the car playing with the options (well I do really but don't want to look to stupid).

Not sure if you mean these are not available on the TD or available as options?, but they are extra cost options, but the Reverse detection & wade sensor require the car to have Hi line audio, power mirrors, surround camera's etc fitted as well.

Mind you I have been told by my dealer after he confirmed with Land Rover in Sydney that we get the wade sensor because our car will be fitted with the Hi line audio, front sensors & rear camera......when it gets here.

I will wait & see

Hi,
It is all confusing.

Apparently the MY14 come with the hi line audio. It was installed on mine even though I did not ask for it. It comes with Meridian sound system which is good. I also have front sensors and a rear camera but don't believe I have the wade detection??

On a long trip say between Canb and Melb you do that anyway irrespective of whether you are on cruise control - unless you nod off of course.

Good point. I guess without cruise you could try and vary the speed a bit more but you tend to not to.

This car is so quiet and smooth you could easily nod off.

The engine hardly varies it's revs at all on cruise i did from Dysart to Cairns and back the other week towing a trailer and the thing is hardly bothered by hills it just powers up them no worries at all just blew me away!! But I guess I've come from the 6cyl 5 speed Subaru outback haha so no where near as much torque!

As pointed out before, there is no problem using the cruise control, just use manual shift to change gears once in a while. It's not constant speed, but constant engine rev that you want to avoid.

Hi Richard...I sure hope they don't come with Hi Audio, as I paid a heap more for the Meridian system over the standard 8 speaker LR setup & according to the LR website it's an option, so sounds like you get a good deal.

Did you get yours from Lennock?

yes from Lennocks.

And you are right the Meridian does cost a bundle.

I am not sure how it ended up on mine but glad it had. I came to an agreement with them over the additional cost. It is worth it.
